Beekeeping Study Notes: For BBKA Basic, SBKA Basic Beemaster, FIBKA Preliminary Examinations

Rate this book
This book, the brown book, completes the series of Beekeeping Study Notes for all the British Beekeepers Association examinations, namely the green and orange volumes for the modules leading to the Intermediate and Advanced certificates, the red book for the Practical Examinationand the blue book for the Microscopy module. The Scottish Beekeepers' Association and the Federation of Irish Beekeepers' Associations have very similar examinations, namely, the Scottish Basic Beemaster Certificate and the Irish Preliminary Certificate respectively. Additional appendices have been included to provide a volume which covers the three associations basic examinations under one cover. The notes address the 61 topics in the BBKA syllabus, 3 additional topics for the SBKA syllabus and 3 additional items for the FIBKA syllabus. The examination is explained and prospective candidates should now have no fears of not knowing what to expect when face to face with the examiner. Dawn and John Yates were Examiners for all the BBKA Examinations and have examined many candidates for the Basic; they are eminently qualified to prepare these notes for future candidates. I read this cover to cover over about 3 months when preparing for my basic assessment exam - and passed with a merit! The authors are very opinionated and very clear about how they think other people get it wrong. That made for some hilarious reading at times. And it covers the information in detail and reliably as far as I would know, so a very valuable read and I learned lots.

Kind of useful as a study aid for the exam. There is a bit of old-farttery going on here, don't expect to be treated kindly if you steer from the authors established ways of beekeeping. Quite condescending and many, many references to "the meddling EU" which has absolutely no place in a book designed as a study aid. I'd personally use the syllabus and look for your information elsewhere.
