AMERICAN RONIN: THE WAY OF WALKING ALONE: A Commentary on Miyamoto Musashi’s DOKKODO

Rate this book
Miyamoto Musashi, Japan’s Greatest Swordsman, wrote a list of 21 precepts for his favorite student shortly before his own death. In AMERICAN RONIN: THE WAY OF WALKING ALONE, veteran, poet, and “philosopher” Joseph Hall applies these same precepts to the modern experience of those warriors who today, like Musashi in his time, find themselves possessed of military skills and a warrior nature, but are now ronin…masterless samurai outside the military system.

This pithy nook is full of grandiose ideas from someone who’s questionable at best. I couldn’t keep up with Mr. Hall’s ideas relating to women. This was a waste of my time.

A Great Outline to the Way of the Warrior and all that is Man

Joseph Hall wrote a great list of precepts for the warrior man. It’s nots predicated to only those who serve in military or law enforcement but more so who dedicate themselves to being strong honorable men with prowess that serves beyond themselves to their family and tribe. Many concepts of Miyamoto Musashi, Plato, Socrates, Marcus Auralius, and more of his own are shared to give a nice straightforward blueprint of which we may build our own Way upon. I recommend it to anyone who is not satisfied with modern ways with the Will of the empire thwarting itself onto our lives.
