Beyond Combat is a wide-ranging examination of military operations away from the battlefield. From an army nurse’s letters home during the First World War, to military families in Southeast Asia during the Cold War, to recovering air force war dead, to the experiences of LGBTI soldiers, there is a lot more to military life than war. Contributions from historians and military personnel, Beyond Combat reveals important aspects of military history too often overlooked.
I borrowed this from the library and just read Chapter 8. The Lousy Business of War: Lice-infested uniforms and British Preventive Medicine in the first World War. I enjoyed reading this chapter and there are a few other chapters I would be interested in coming back to, especially Chapter 5 about Australian's teaching the PNG military after WW2. Also a chapter about RAAF pilots whose bodies were never found. For the time being, my borrowing rights are up and I will not renew.
