The Pathfinders were the corps d’elite of Bomber Command, the command that led the fight against Germany even before the fall of France. Pathfinder crews consisted of members who had flown a minimum of 45 operational sorties and while they were the best, they were made from all ranks and backgrounds.

The Master Bomber was the aircraft in charge of the whole attack. They would transmit instructions over VHF radio to the main force telling them what colored markers to ignore and what to bomb.

A thorough account of the experiences of various flight crews. Lots of personal stories melded with the history of 582 Squadron; some harrowing, some kind of funny. I didn't know a lot about Pathfinders before reading this book. I knew 'someone' organised things so bombs fell on target but didn't know the 'how' of it or just how difficult and involved it was. A real eye-opener of a read.

Well written account of a Pathfinder Force Squadron from their beginning in 1944 until being disbanded in 1945. Many of the aircrews had alot more experience of course and all this is discussed with personal accounts and the records. A very good read.
