Mary Hawarden Trost is Philadelphia born and bred, with a degree from Bryn Mawr. After moving to Bareglen Creek, TX to teach at an orphanage for three months, she and her husband Mike decided to stay and try their hand at farming. When Mike dies unexpected, Mary is determined to carry on with his dream.

When Mike's family threatens to take the farm away, citing laws that state land and businesses should revert back to the man's family and not the surviving wife, Mary decides upon a bold response. She will fight to keep Mike's dream alive!

But when Mike's family tries to force her hand in marrying Mike's brother, a known bully, in order to keep her beloved farm, Mary collapses and doesn't regain consciousness.

Lee Jamison, M.D., is a renowned psychiatrist at the Institue of Pennsylvania Hospital and a professor at U Penn. He fell in love with Mary while visiting his friend, Doctor Lance Holloway, in Bareglen Creek. He's biding his time to give Mary the time and space she needs to grieve her loss, but when Doc Holloway sends him an urgent telegram telling him to come to Bareglen Creek immediately, Doctor Jamison takes the next train to be by her side.

Doctor Jamison is handsome and he could have any Philadelphia socialite that he chose, but no one has captured his heart like the independent and beautiful Mary Hawarden Trost. He arrives in Bareglen Creek to find that Mary has been unconscious for four days with no sign of regaining consciousness. He decides upon an unorthodox approach to bring her back, but little does he know the trials that present around every corner as he tries to help Mary leave the past behind.
Sinister forces are at work in the background, trying to keep Doctor Jamison and Mary apart.

Will his love be strong enough to win her heart, and defeat the opposition—or will her ties to the past hold her captive?

Patiently Charmed goes from farms and small towns in Texas to parlors in Philadelphia. It explores the field of psychiatry back in 1896 as our heroine has need of it due to her grief and guilt. Mary and Lee make a good couple. I was definitely rooting for them. There were some twists and turns that I didn't see coming. I felt like the pacing of the story was good. I didn't like the part about the cats. There is a very nice HEA. I would recommend this to readers of Christian romance. I received an ARC. I chose to write a review and share my opinion.

WHERE THERE’S A WILL, THERE’S A WAY

I enjoyed this third story that will start in Bareglen Creek, Texas where widow Mary Hawarden Trost is managing the farm of her late husband, Mike, with the help of her brother, Jim. She has the support of her sister, Claire and her husband, Sheriff Sully, along with friends, Magdalene and Dr. Lance Holloway. These are people all found in the first two books, Lawfully Charmed and Reluctantly Charmed.

Mike’s family has decided they are going to threaten suit against Mary for the farm Mike purchased, even though she is his widow, they blame her for his death. She is fretting over how to handle them when another telegram arrives that Mike’s bullying brother, Gerald is on his way, and the family wants her to marry him to keep the farm. The shock will cause her to faint, hit her head, and be unconscious.

The plot will include Dr. Lee Jamison, a friend of Dr. Lance Holloway. Lee met Mary when he was in Bareglen Creek and would like to pursue a relationship with her, but she is punishing herself for the death of Mike and still grieving even though it has been more than a year. Lee’s mother in Philadelphia is wanting her son to marry and playing matchmaker against his will. When they can’t bring Mary around since her concussion, Lee is contacted by Lance needing his medical expertise. He will take a train to Bareglen Creek and will be instrumental in her recovery by using her medical knowledge of psychiatry.

The story is an emotional journey for Mary in holding on to the past with Mike, trying to keep the farm going, and eventually accepting that things change. It will include Lee and Lance both working in the beginning with her recovery and later Lee’s medical training in psychiatry that will help her move forward in healing physically, spiritually, and emotionally.

Can Mary accept that Mike will not be coming back? The farm was his dream and not hers? Can she let his family have their way and take it from her? Can she move back to Philadelphia where her parents live, and what about Dr. Lee Jamison?

The story has a second mystery taking place in Philadelphia with a serial killer. Believed to be a man who has killed several women. Lee will be brought in on the case as a psychiatrist, along with Sully’s law enforcement assistance. Has the killer set their sights on Mary? And why?

Mary is ready to move forward in her life, she likes teaching, but she wants a husband and children too. Can she find happiness now that she is back with her family? What will become of her friendship with Lee? That is all part of the rest of this story of mystery, suspense, danger, along with several life and death situations.

“Every day is a gift.”

The story is a clean historical romantic suspense story with a great cast of characters and a look into medical practices. While it has strong Christian principles, it isn’t preachy. The story could read as a stand-alone but even better with the two stories mentioned above.

Although I thoroughly enjoyed the first two books in the series, this story fell a little short of the two. It seemed the author worked too hard to get this couple to fall in love. It also seemed that this story worked to hard in getting the point of submission of a woman to a man across. A man doesn't need to suppress his dominance on a woman, especially one he claims to love. If two Godly people love each other, the natural order of husband and wife will take place. The story is upsetting on so many levels, including the reveal of the serial killer.

Her husband is gone, and she has fought to keep the farm they had started. Her brother Jim left his life in Philadelphia to help her. Now the parents of her deceased husband are demanding she turn the farm over to them. The woman had.no rights to own land, especially viewed that way in the east, and her husband’s name was on the deed. Another telegram to marry a brother, who is known as a bully. She collapses and a different doctor is brought in. An interesting story of times and how love happens in the West.

This is the heartfelt story of Mary and Lee. Mary is in trouble and emotionally shuts down. Lee, an acclaimed Philadelphia psychiatrist and friend of the family comes right away to Texas to help her. He is in love with her and hopes to woo her. They end up back in Philadelphia but there is a new threat there and they will need to trust God for Mary's protection. I received a complimentary copy and I am giving a review voluntarily.

Patiently charmed

A Dr and a woman who has lost her husband and who has tried to run a farm that was her dead husbands dream.she carries out his dream for awhile and gets sick and needs help to redeem herself and her priorities. Dr. Lee helps her and they fall in love and get married. A true romance with a small amount of intrigue thrown in for good measure. This is my review of a free book and mine alone. Norma Gorrill

An incredible story of the Biblical order in the family and a love worth fighting for!  Kate does a marvelous job with just the right balance of psychological doctoring with Old West romance and women's roles in the new suffrage movement with Biblical marriage!  I'm loving these couple in both Bareglen, TX and Philadelphia, PA.  I hope there's more to look forward to in this series!!
