SUN DOWN, MONSTERS UP! introduces the characters of Pitchfork Pines Preschool. This special preschool hosts the children of famous monsters who assume their monster form at night and have magical powers. The book begins by introducing the current students. Then, a new monster arrives, Zoe, and everyone wonders what she will be and what her powers are. Zoe is a Zombie! She is a little shy and so does not step in at first. The other children try to make her feel welcome, and the teachers work to find an activity she enjoys to feel more comfortable.

In the process, children learn about what it is like to be the new kid and how to cope plus how to help new kids at their school. With colorful images and obvious tie-ins to the popular kids’ show on Netflix, this is a great companion book.

What I loved: This book sets up the monsters and the school for children who are already familiar and/or new to the series. It also has a full storyline with the new kid at school finding her way and making friends. This is overall a great message for preschoolers who will enjoy the colorful images and cool monster toddlers. Adding onto that, the book also includes glow-in-the-dark stickers for some extra fun, making your own artwork outside of the book or just to enjoy. As a bonus for parents, the font is clear and easy to read from the usual reading distance.

Final verdict: This is a cute and fun book with font that is easy to read. Children who are already familiar and those who are new to the show will enjoy meeting all the monsters of this unique preschool. With some messages about friendship and kindness, this is a solid story for young readers.

{My thoughts} – Super Monster’s is a really fun and colorful series on Netflix. My two year-old enjoys watching it from time to time.

The cover to the book is in par with the series cartoon. The characters match and it looks really nicely put together. The illustrations throughout the book go hand and hand with the storyline.

This particular book is about a new student named Zoe joining the Super Monster Preschool. When she first gets there, she hangs back and a bit shy. It takes her a bit of time to find her grove. But eventually she does find her place and starts to show others in the class how great of a painter she is once she becomes comfortable enough with everyone.

I really think that this book will be a hit with most children because it is based on the popular Netflix series. It also helps to show children that it’s okay to be shy and hang back until they feel more comfortable when they are placed in new environments.
