The book aims to assist students and researchers to learn how to apply spatial data analysis methods to real-world data using an open source statistical programming language. It presents example applications of these methodologies and provides good practices of applied research. Therefore, the theory has been kept to a minimum and the focus is given to the use of the R programming language and selected packages. The book consists of three I) an introduction to R as a programming language, II) the presentation of R commands and packages for reading and mapping spatial data, and III) the presentation of exploratory and explanatory spatial data analysis using the R package lctools.
