Rate this book
Rupen, Dinkar and Ajit redeemed their pledge to work in the provincial city of their school days. By sheer force of Rupen’s formidable reputation as an outstanding Editor of the World Chronicle and Vishwadesh newspapers in Calcutta he came to the notice of the Emperor who picked him to revive his own defunct newspaper. Rupen accepted and acted quickly by asking Dinkar to leave the King’s service and join him. Ajit left Calcutta to start his law firm in Patna and became the Chief Counsel of Dolphin newspapers run by Rupen. Steadfastly they sprinted towards their goals where duty above all else ruled their lives. In 1959 Rupen interviewed JFK, President of the United States in the Oval Office at the White House which was globally reported in the media. Ajit meanwhile successfully fought the cases for Dolphin Papers in the High Court and Supreme Court and became a legal eagle par excellence. Dinkar cleared the hurdles as an ace administrator to push the newspapers ascent to the top. The three friends were a force to reckon with. Just then the Prime Minister wanted Rupen to mentor his young daughter being groomed to lead the party and the government. Julie Thomas and Radha Thakur were the new age modern women of an emancipated India cutting through the iron wall of a patriarchial society while still retaining strong family bonds. One was a distinguished educationist and entrepreneur and the other a successful agrarian manager and homemaker. Both chartered out on independent careers which other women had not done before. They had al lived through the four seasons together and then the fifth season arrived. That changed everything forever.

Friends and Five Seasons: Publishing Hero Rupen (Vol 2)
by Madhukant Acharya

After having read the part one of this Book , i was extremely curious to know what is in store for Volume 2
and I must say I am glad I read this book although it took me a bit longer than i had expected but it was
totally worth my time and packed with so much drama, action, memories, different stages of life,.

Oh ! Those growing up teenage days !
The thrill to achieve those dreams & ambitions and how they all made it happen this book will surely keep you
hooked on till the very end.

This book takes you on a roller coaster ride : A journey of bravery, revolt ,love , friednship , slavery , protest and socio-political events.

The story revolves around the lives of Rupen, Ajit, Dinkar, Julie, and Radha and sheds light on their careers as well as their personal lives as they
decide to embark on this journey and how every season in their lives has a significant role to play which is inspiring and thought provoking.

The struggle each of these characters had to face is not only against the British rule over India but also speaks about their own personal transformation
and building their careers admidst those challenging circumstances.

I love the writing style used and found is quite similar to the Vol 1 its easy to comprehend yet leaves a profound impact and make you think
about the various incidents from your own perspective hence you start relating to the characters and
there is so much to learn for anyone who picks this book.

What is unique about this book is the Storyline itself, I have never read a book before with this storyline and if you are looking for an action packed
book and have a keen interest to read on the certain unheard events that occured during the period in India between 1921 and 1970 then this book is for you.
I highly recommend every youth to read this book !

Friends and Five seasons volume 2 is the second book in this series and in this book we follow our protagonist Rupen in his journey as he becomes the publishing hero. This book as the previous one is set in pre-Independent India.

The timeline shifts further and now it is the time of the Gandhi Irwin Pact, it is the time of Bose, it is the time when CV Raman will win a Nobel Prize and the subsequent years, a discussion on India's Independence is now unavoidable. Our protagonist, Rupen is very bold and actively working for the cause through his ingenious articles by bringing forth topics noone dares to venture into.

Honestly, this is such a charming book to read, the best thing about this book is how beautifully the author has weaved a fictional tale using modern history. All the events, incidents and personalities mentioned or the backdrop in general is something which is not fiction at all, it is our shared past, it is a series of true events and establishing fictional characters in it and creating an immaculate fictional tale is mind blowing.

The language of both books in this series is very approachable and everyone can read and enjoy them. If you are a lover of history, you will like it even more, I am not a fan of history but still I really liked reading it. These stories also have a kind of charm of simplicity as there is no over exaggeration or too much patriotism, they are very subtle in this context.

If you are looking for a different kind of series, a charming fictional tale with a likeable hero, set in history, you should definitely check out this one!

‘Publishing Hero Rupen’ is the second part of the duology ‘FRIENDS AND FIVE SEASONS’. Now the story focuses more on the personal and professional of the three friends and how their efforts made them heroes in their fields.

This part is actually an inspirational journey with a lot of twists. It opens up the bright period in India (between 1920s and 1970s) before the present generation, and also serves the inspiration to achieve your goals.

Though the language and narration is same as that of the first volume, This part surpasses it with respect to the story line and character development. At the same time, the background – the freedom struggle of India too is explored very well.

The book also has some strong female characters like Radha, a home maker and successful agrarian manager, and Julie, an educationist and entrepreneur. They simpolizes the modern women by coming out of the patriarchal shadows and creating a space for their own, but at the same time maintaining their family duties without any fail.

The book speaks about the four seasons the friends spent together -– bramhacharya or celibacy, grihastashrama or householdership, vanaprastha or shedding of ties and sanyasa or meditation (according to Vedics), and finally the death, followed by the reminiscing and grieving by the loved ones, which the author calls as the fifth season.

Overall this book is a unique historical experience that depicts a picture of social, economical and political India in the 19th century, which everyone should give a try.

After reading the first part of this book, I felt really excited and curious about the second part and yes, it was something more than what I expected it to be. Rupen, Ajit, Dinkar, Julie, and Radha are here to engage us in their lives with a lot of different action, drama, relationships and much more. The book is quite huge with a lot of details and situation descriptions, which made it further interesting. The journey is more about career choices, success and how society takes it.

The story is quite inspiring for yours to read, indulging for students and hope for anyone who ever dreams to make a change. The writing is just amazing with a lot of surprising narrations, along with a lot of character insights, which I personally love in the novels.

I recommend this book to all the people who are fond of reading a success tale with a unique fictional touch.

*Book review*
The story line follows Vol 1 of the book, the older generation has passed away and the next generation has matured.

The three friends Rupen, Ajit and Dinkar have grown too.
They're all successful in their respective professions and have now gotten married and settled down.
One by one we're taken on a very delightful journey and finally the story ends with the fifth season.

Reading this book was not only intellectually stimulating but also rejuvenating.
I don't think I've even heard of the things described in the book.
Everything was unique and very much detailed which made my imagination lucid.
Everything about this book was amazing, specially the ending.
It tackles all the socio-political issues and talks about them at depth.
All in all a great read!
