I fondly remember this story from my childhood and truly believe that it (along with Harold and the Purple Crayon) may very well be responsible for my love of reading and writing. This is such a wonderfully imaginative story. I think every child should read it (or have it read to them by a lucky adult)! :-)
I loved this story as a child in the 80s. It is one of the reasons/inspiration I got into writing. This is something I must try to acquire an older edition to share the joy with my own child. It mentions being based on a Sicilian folk tale in the description here, if anyone knows I would love a citation on this. What folk tale is it based on and where can I read an early translation of that?
This was my favorite childhood book but they redid it in 97 I see and i enjoyed the original version. Can’t find a copy of this version either. 3 stars bc it’s not the original print and disappointed I don’t know what happened to mine
