Presents the history of United States' foreign policy with Islamic countries, beginning with the Carter administration through the present day and discussing how mistakes and miscalculations have fueled the current rise of al Qaeda and Islamic terrorism around the world.
I think that this is one of the most even-handed books I have ever read. The authors spares no one. He starts off nailing the blunders of the last Bush administration and then proceeds to point out the idiotic blunders of every administration going back to Carter's. As usual, Dr. Williams provides excellent footnotes to back up his points. I do check them out as I am a stickler for facts, not feelings, in my non-fiction reading. BTW, Dr. Williams begins the book by explaining why he is qualified to call these people dunces by pointing out what he has done in his life to earn the conical cap.
Paul's knowledge and experience at FBI, while handling anti-terrorism operations had lead to him discovering lesser known aspects behind proliferating global network of Islamic terrorism. His condensed account of those discoveries, in form of follies at level of administration or leadership is indeed an eye-opener. Although his extrapolations and forecasts seems far fetched at times, given empirical evidence and facts, it also somewhere makes one think that it's not completely impossible.
I admire this book for the bold yet truthful account of dangers present or foreseen.
