The book of the BBC television series of the same title from 1975. A charming introduction for children to the subject of strange and mythical animals, sure to spark young imaginations as it did mine way back when. It's basically the script of each individual programme episode: "Here be Monsters", "Mermaids", "Dragons and Serpents", "Winged Creatures", "Horns of Magic" and "Man or Beast". A minor quibble is that some of the language used is dated such as the term "Red Indian".
A judicious use of illustrations many from early natural history books.
