Self aggrandizement

The language is flowery in the extreme sometimes causing the reader to carefully review the sentence. This is perhaps a style of colorful writing common for the period. That history is written by the victors is clearly demonstrated. Justification for revenge and punishment is difficult to accept. The book is time consuming but worthwhile perhaps for an historical investigator.
