One of the most popular members of the staff at Seafields Hospital, loved and trusted by her colleagues and her patients alike, was Eve Ramsey in charge of the men's general ward. So it was a great pity that her career should be in danger of being ruined by the mischief-making of her selfish sister Dawn.
This is a VERY old-school doctor/nurse romance. A lot of time is spent with the comings and goings of the hospital; even more time is spent on the h's scheming, selfish half-sister, whose actions cause professional and personal heartbreak to the h. To be fair, the sister is pretty much of a hot mess whose antics are breathtakingly shameless and stupid (she'd be the star of a very successful reality show today).
The H is a nice person; he's a patient at the Hospital in question and meets the h when she nurses him. The h is practically engaged and warns him of this, but he still admires her greatly, even though he is engaged to another woman.
Ultimately, the sister's actions result in disaster and the h finds herself in a very bad situation. However, she rallies because she's pretty close to perfect. Only her long-suffering stupidity with her sister and terrible taste in men keep her from total MarySue-dom.
It's no-steam, but quite enjoyable in a formulaic, everything-is-wrapped-up-neatly way.
3.5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️. I liked seeing what a hospital in the 60’s was like in England. This is very reminiscent of Betty Neels! The ending was anticlimactic after the searching the H had done for the h.
*****Possible spoilers*****
My only frustration is that awful half sister did not get punished for the derelictions of duty throughout the book. She should have lost her license or something. 🤦♀️ The cheating, lying doctor boyfriend should have had a worse comeuppance as well.
3.5/5 This was a very well written novel. I liked the heroine Eve Ramsey the nurse a lot. She is a wonderful person who is very caring and understanding. She has a step sister Dawn who is always causing her trouble. The hero Victor wylde was also a charming person a Baron and doctor by profession and their romance was sweet and good to read. This is the second novel of Anne Vinton which I have read and I found both the novels to be very good.
