Students need to practice daily the basic skills of estimation, computation, and problem solving in order to cope with problems in the real world when they no longer have the luxury of a teacher's guidance. This problem-solving ability will help them to become confident and capable adults. Here is a collection of' real world' verbal problems that encourage problem solving as well as computational practice, both with and without a calculator. Unlike the textbook, these problems are purposely not organized around one particular operation.
