When kids pray, does God hear? Does he answer them? You may have heard those questions before, or perhaps have asked them yourself. Oftentimes, they pray for things adults never think about, such as, Dear God, Do you ever have "time out"? or Dear God, Mom says I'm an angel.. Does that mean I can fly? These questions and many more come together in illustrator Annie Fitzgerad's 22-page paperback, My Little Book of Dear God Letters, Thoughts for Every Day. The scribbley-drawn kids, on one half of each page, act out whatever question God is asked. On the other half of the page, a first-person adult conversation offers answers on a child's level of understanding, and assures him or her what God thinks, who He is, and that He loves us.  Printed, too, at the bottom of each page, are either one Old Testament verse, or one New Testament verse, to strengthen the information in the letter. This small booklet is packed full of helpful insights for kids and adults wondering about God in everyday situations.

These books are SUCH a blessing! When my 4 Year old son started asking things like 'What's Jesus' last name?', 'Which planet is Heaven on?', and ''Which way do I point when I point to God?' I knew we were ready for something he could grasp to get to know our Father intimately. Here's the deal. I'm lousy at consistency and devotionals have never been something I could stick to (except Our Daily Bread). But this set of books nailed it!!! My son asks for it every night and I'm always dumbfounded when the truths jump off the pages, relevant and ministering to my heart & his simultaneously. Go, God, go!!! Thanks to the author and illustrator for being such a conduit of truth!

This sweet book is written in question and answer format. This might be a great way to introduce prayer and other religious concepts in a comforting way for children. It also might be a good way to have devotional time with your child at the beginning of the day or at the end of the day. Each page has a question or comment to God such as, "Do you every take a break?" There are adorable illustrations, an answer to the question or comment, and a Bible verse to memorize or look up and read.

I'm not a religious person, but for those who are and have children, this can be a good primer for bringing a child up with an understanding of how his faith can work in his life. Each little "letter" is backed up with an appropriate verse from the Bible, and the book is nicely illustrated to keep a child's interest.
