Before Jess leaves Stratton, Texas, U.S. Marshal Frank Reedy gives him an unwanted assignment. The job forces Jess to go north to the town of Loveland, Nebraska, to hunt two vicious killers, Bernie Crangle and Rueben Gideon.
Jess doesn’t want to go because it’s the time of year when it can get cold in Nebraska. Worse, the only way to get there fast enough in the hopes of getting back to southern Texas, and a warmer climate, is to get on another train. He reluctantly agrees because he owes Reedy a favor.
He makes his way on the hunt for the two vicious outlaws and seems to find trouble around every corner. The train he’s on is carrying a huge gold shipment, guarded by an old friend, Vic Pardo. There are rumors of a robbery attempt and trouble soon follows.
He finally gets to Loveland, and starts his search for the two killers there, but they are leaving a trail of dead bodies in their wake. He needs to find them before the list gets longer, but he’s hampered by another bounty hunter and a woman who seems to have an interest in the two outlaws.
After the job is finished, he heads south again, but the snow flies and the cold comes. By the time he arrives back in Stratton, another ally surprisingly shows up and Jess is not sure it’s a good sign or bad. One thing is for sure. He’ll soon find out.

Another great action filled western involving our main character Jess Williams, Man Killer, U.S. Marshal. He's joined with Shadow, our timber wolf, and Wildcat, female bounty hunter from New Mexico Territory has just been sworn in as the first female U.S.Marshal covering New Mexico Territory...a great achievement and advancement for women's rights as law enforcement...wunderbar wunderbar.... A mother great ENJOYABLE READ, you will not put your Kindle down until you finish or you need to charge your Kindle..keep your Arbuckle hot and ready...keep yourself safe..
RJT has penned the 74th Jess Williams novel with the usual long line of criminals. He is joined by Shadow and then Wildcat, who ironically is romantically involved with Jess, much to Shadows chagrin. The 75th novel is a well paved novel ending by mOods Wildcat becoming a Deputy U.S. Marshall. When the team of JW and Wildcat team together the bad guys are seldom heard from again. The story ends with JW, Wildcat, John Bodine and Shadow being assigned to New Mexico. This is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHS
Great reading as always. Western stories at there best.
Robert J. Thomas Penn's a great western, with action, romance, and generosity. His book tell the stories of a bounty hunter who removes the worst bad men from the the old west. Jesus also helps others who need assistance getting back to normal and he is very generous to the little people he deals with. I have read all seventy four of his books and can't wait for the next one.
I really enjoy these books. I love it when, Jess,Wildcat and Bodine are all in the story together. Old friends who can say things to each other without one getting mad. I love the humor, and friendship between Jess and Bodine. I really enjoy it when Wildcat is added to the story. Looking forward to many more books on Jess and his friends. Thank you, for a awesome read.
