This is the story of a rescue dog who was just over two years old when she joined Brian and Juliet’s family of rescues, having already had three previous owners in her short life.
The tiny little terrier soon wormed her way into the hearts of the family, and her antics and oversized attitude quickly earned her the nicknames ‘The Mad Ferret’ and ‘The Wicked Witch of the West.’ Cassie can best be described as a ‘pocket dynamo’ or, as the author puts it, “She is filled with boundless energy, and despite being fourteen years old now, she’s like a Duracell bunny without an off switch.”
Cassie has bounced back from operations, managed to get lost and found in one afternoon, chased away Rottweilers and Dobermans that have had the nerve to try and steal her tennis ball, and found herself being injured by interfering in larger dogs’ squabbles. People just can’t help falling in love with this tiny bundle of joy.
Cassie’s Tale is the third book in Brian L. Porter’s series of rescue dogs, following on from the award-winning bestsellers, Sasha and From Hell to Happiness.
Formerly a member of the Royal Air Force, Brian L Porter is an award-winning author, and a dedicated dog rescuer, with the distinction of having more than twenty Amazon #1 bestsellers to his name. He has written under three pseudonyms, with bestsellers coming under each of his writing guises. The majority of those have come under his Brian L Porter name with four coming under his Harry Porter and Juan Pablo Jalisco names.
Nowadays, he divides his time between writing his popular Mersey Murder Mystery series of books, and his immensely successful true-life Family of Rescue Dogs series, all featuring the dogs that form part of his own family, and all having been Amazon #1 bestsellers.
Funny, poignant and amazing—just like Cassie! Cassie is a Yorkshire Terrier / Australian Terrier crossbreed. She’s tiny and cute but she has the heart of a lion. Fearless, full of energy, she has become one of the author’s rescue dogs. This is her tale and aptly titled. How she came into the Porter fold and joined his pack is told with charm and humour. Each of Brian’s dog rescue books is a must read for dog lovers and animal lovers. There are lessons to be learned. One can only benefit from reading his books. Cassie and all of his past and current rescues are so lucky to have found that home and those two people that care for them: wife, Juliet and Brian. Whatever sort of start a dog has had, when they come to call the author’s house, home, they will want for nothing. There is a special place in heaven for both of them. Thank you, Brian Porter for writing this!
Cassie was found one rainy night when a lady named Linda heard cries and whimpering coming from the direction of the garden of a house she was walking past. She stopped to try and discover where the noises were originating from and actually climbed the wall into the garden and there she discovered the source of the crying - a tiny, wet and bedraggled, shivering little pup with nowhere to go to get out of the rain. Barely twelve inches long, she was a grey haired, little terrier with a long tail that curled upwards and with white 'socks' on the bottom of her paws. After being passed to what was thought to be her 'forever' home, Cassie ended up being rescued yet again and ended up being taken in by Brian, Juliet and their 'pack' of four legged bundles of fur. Cassie's Tale is her story from her first rescue to date.
I've had dogs my whole life and when I read Cassie's Tale it brought back memories of each individually. Cassie is so full of spirit with antics that make her unforgettable. When I read about her being a ball thief and how she would take a ball away from dogs as large as a Rottweiler, Doberman or West Highland Terrier, it makes me think about my own West Highland who does the same.
When I read about her cow pat rolls, I remembered my poodle named Peaches who would head straight for the cow pasture when I took her camping with me. She always looked for the biggest, freshest one she could find. Thank goodness I also camped near a stream.
When I read how she was found, I remembered Tipsey who was living in a storage facility with nothing to eat and no place to get out of the summer heat.
And then she reminds me of my Soul Mate Jesse who chooses those he likes and when. Fortunately for me, he really loves me and stays at my side always.
All-in-all, if you're a dog lover you can't help but enjoy this beautiful book about Cassie and her ups and downs. If you aren't a dog lover, who knows, after reading this you must might become one.
Cassie’s Tale, by Brian L. Porter, is a loving story about a rambunctious little Yorkshire Terrier/Australian Terrier mix that rightfully earned her nickname of “Mad Ferret.” It’s a cute expression given to her by Brian and his equally-dog-loving wife, Juliet.
This story is about Cassie’s life, from the time they rescued her, to date. But it’s so much more than that. Reading between the lines, you’ll learn of two people who rescue dogs because of their love for these animals. They don’t just rescue them. The dogs become family. They’re encouraged to have their own lives and personalities. The pets’ needs are taken care of just as one would care for human children. Dogs and all pets have needs, medical and otherwise.
Yes, this story is about Cassie. But it’s also about two people who provide loving homes for the dogs they rescue. At the writing of this story, Brian and Juliet have eleven dogs. You’ve got to be special people to take on responsibility like that. With pictures of this sweet pup included, and one of all the dogs too, this story is entertaining because of Cassie’s energy, antics, daring, and endurance. She truly earned the name “Mad Ferret.” She’s a very pretty dog that I simply fell in love with. Dog lovers should enjoy this tale.
Brian and his wife, Juliet, are able to care for, exercise, and feed (not as easy as it may sound) more rescue dogs than most couples could. They have little resistance to bringing home the next waif, but they do manage to keep their ‘pack’ at a number that is within their capabilities. Now eleven plus or minus would sound impossible to most of us mortals, however they have had, it would appear, that many from time to time. No matter how much experience the reader may have had with dogs, reading Brian’s books is sure to expand their insight into their own current and future dogs. I am writing this in April, 2020, in California under ‘Shelter in Place’ orders. What a wonderful way I’ve discovered to fill in some blank time spots by reading the entire rescue series. Easy and interesting tales.
Cassie is the third book written by Mr. Porter about how he and his family share their home and their lives with an assortment of rescue dogs all with their own unique personalities and quirks.
This time we are introduced to Cassie the Yorkshire Terrier , Australian Terrier crossbreed she's tiny and looks so cute but don't be fooled her nickname is the mad ferret. Why you ask well I'm afraid I don't like to give spoilers so you will have to buy the book to out for yourself but what I will say is Cassie will steal your heart and your tennis balls if you don't watch her.
I discovered these wonderful books by Mr. Porter and have read through them all I can relate to what these wonderful people are doing with ten dogs. I myself got involved with rescuing dogs and giving them a good home. I decided to do this June of 2010. My husband died and my three children were grown an gone, so why not? Well these many years later I'm still loving what I do, but somehow 82 snuck up on me and its getting difficult to say the least. I now have eight dogs. You know how that goes. I lost my nineteen year old Papilloma and then my14 year old Yellow Lab. So we are doing well and loving your stories. The rest of my pack consists of, 3 Chihuahuas, one Dachshund 1 Golden Retriever and 1 more Papillon I res, cued at 14 yrs. She is now 18. 1 two lb Chihuahua & Terrier. My latest is a Australian Shepard. I got her as a pup and now she 3 years old. So I will keep going doing my best and keeping dogs healthy and happy to the end. Again thank you for all that you do and your devoted wife as well. Warmest Regards......Linda Solano
Another amazing book that I couldn’t put down. Cassie was so fortunate to finally have found her forever home. There were so many laugh out loud moments with balls and silly antics. Cassie is a small dog, with a big dog personality. Her family and siblings are truly an inspiration when it comes to rescue. After reading the author’s dog books I appreciate my dog Amber so much more. I have come to realize dogs choose and rescue us. Also, as the author states pet insurance definitely gives you peace of mind. Kudos to volunteers and those that work in animal shelters.
I thoroughly enjoyed this short read of a rescue dog, perhaps because a rescue dog resides in my home. They nicknamed Cassie the Mad Ferret, but from what I read in this delightful tale of a bewitching little dog, she may dash about like a mad one, but she is truly a Queen Bee. She will rule in her own little world that she likes just a certain way as she carefully selects those that will be her friends. She does expect them to behave in a certain way, but such a small mite doesn’t realize the danger to herself. Read on and meet Cassie and her friends, both human and four legged.
I've read the other two books Sasha and Sheba, now Cassies and each all have their own individual stories to tell and all have they're own very different personalities. I do find "the mad ferret" entertaining and funny she sounds like a right little character. Also she helped a little Yorkie learn how to come out of her shell and run and play. She's not only kind bested but seems to be the boss of her owners pack of dogs. I can't wait for the next book :)
Brian Porter writes about his amazing rescue dogs bringing out the remarkable abilities that pet lovers everywhere see in their own pets. However, one seldom sees the dedication and love that Brian and his lovely wife Juliet give to these deserving animals. Thank God for these people and thank you Brian for taking us on your journeys with Cassie, Sasha and Sheba.
Really enjoyed this story. I love any story about little dogs.. I am partial to littlte dogs as i have a small home and no room for bigger dogs Most dog storys are about big dogs so was so happy to read this cute story about this tough little dog and her antics. Also ove reading about rescue dogs Really a great story.
If you enjoy a good feeling dog's life book, this is the one. As a "parent" of two rescues, nothing gives me more pleasure than reading about how other dog "parents" adopted their furry friend.
Another brilliant story in this series. This is the story of a little rescue dog with an attitude bigger than herself. From a horrible begining to happy furever home. A must to read. Unable to put down till finished great story of an amazing little dog.
As I read this book, I started to understand my mothers dog, Peanut, a little better. Thank you for sharing your stories which are very helpful to me. I started with Cassie’s story and now I’m on to Sheba’s.
Love this kind of book, Have had dogs all our married lives the last 2 were Jackie Russell who were sisters and lived for almost 18 years, they were small in size but not in stature little dogs think they are giants !!
This book was so well written. You feel like part of the crazy loveable family. Cassie is quite the one of a kind dog challenging and so loveable. I would highly recommend this book to all animal lovers.
UK order number: D01-7643575-0747832 I think I will always remember that nickname. It was I know a term of endearment for such a brave and fearless terrier. After surviving three previous owners, she was lucky enough to attract the eye of Brian and his wife Juliet who took her to their hearts and welcomed her to their large family of strays. How they found time to look after all their constant demands amazes me - they deserve a medal for their unstinting efforts. Every rescue story is told with humour and affection and Cassie herself shines as an outstanding personality in her own right. It brings back heart warming memories of all our lovely dogs long gone who shared our lives and pulled at the heart strings. Strongly recommended - a must for animal lovers.
