England manager Gareth Southgate's decision to appoint Kane, still just twenty-three years old, as the team captain in 2017 could have been seen as premature, bringing with it pressure that could damage a young player's career. However, he knew that Kane, a modest, humble and inspiring figure was up to the task.Having lost faith in the national team, English fans weren't sure the players would even make it out of their group. No one could have predicted that this young and relatively inexperienced side would achieve their best result since 1990, or that their captain would win the tournament's Golden Boot with six goals. Perhaps most importantly for the team and their manager, they brought the country together to make for an unforgettable summer. While their eventual semi-final loss to Croatia came as a stinging disappointment, this is just the start for the team and their skipper, one of our most exciting players for a generation and a truly world-class English star.In this in-depth biography, bestselling sports writer Frank Worrall traces Kane's journey from an ordinary childhood in north London, growing up just a few miles from White Hart Lane, to the most remarkable tournament of his career.
First I like this book Harry Kane England's Hero and I give it a four out of five. I liked the setting in the story because Harry Kane journeyed all over across the United Kingdom. Moreover through the years He was sharpened up by the different times he was sent out to different teams to grow. ( “ They recognized these loan would sharpen him up and looked forward to the day he returned for good”) (Worrall 40) Next I loved the mood on how the coach was trying to implant on harry because he wasn’t receiving the most playing time but the coach always had faith in Harry even though there were other options on the bench (“ Harry came at a difficult time for us and I think for him”)( Worral 80) Also the improvement he had made throughout his young career was incredible in my personal opinion because there were so many expectations from coach’s, fans and all around the club for the players to succeed and thrive but given few opportunities to shine. Therefore when reading throughout this book some of the managers that took Harry on loan never really gave him the recognition he deserved but once the manager Mauricio gave him to shine that when he did. (“ But when talking about Harry’s loan moves, he insists they were not totally beneficial, as he was not getting enough starts and that the managers of the loan clubs were hardly rhapsodizing about Harry’s efforts when he did play.”) ( Worrall 93) Once Harry learned how to deal with big defenders in the premier league which were ruthless and could injure you anyway possible. So Harry created a move so when a defenders came charging at him full speed he would dribble right past them with a swift leap.( “ He knew what to expect from defenders long in the tooth, how to get sucked in their nudges and illegal challenges and most importantly, how to beat them with a swerve of a body or a deft leap over any violent attempt to halt his progress.”) (Worrall 103)
Covers Harry Kane and similar players' history; loan spells, hard work, Tottenham's journey, an amazing read for football fans. Not the best biography, but sure is a good book with good pictures. Influential, encouraging, and thrilling.
