Project Bloodborn #1-4: Wolf Man / Wolf Spirit / Wolf Killer / Wolf Warrior

(Alternate cover edition of ASIN B07GBYTRP2.)

Brenner is not a werewolf…

He is the result of a secret US Army experiment. The creation of a government controlled Super Soldier.

And no one asked if he wanted to take part.

So, he escaped. And for the last fifty years has been living in the backroads and the small unknown towns of America. Never aging. Searching for a cure. At the same time avoiding the dark ops experts who are looking for him.

But just because he can become a seven foot, four hundred pound killing machine, it doesn’t mean that Brenner is bad. In fact, he sticks to a strict code.

And like the High Plains drifters of old, anyone who crosses the Wolfman’s code is sure to suffer.

They took his humanity … and now it’s time for payback. Author’s note …

“I was looking to create a character that brought to mind the high plains drifters of old. A western hero that rode into town on a dark horse, delivered justice and retribution in equal measure and then rode off into the sunset.

“A modern-day gunslinger with a dark secret.

I hope that I did the premise justice.”

This was so not my usual reading material...and I did not want it to end! Total surprise. The idea of an avenging angel in a werewolf was just too intriguing to be ignored. The steadfast as well as episodic characters were also defined well enough to be interesting. I would have liked to have more exposure to their unique lives and less time spent on the bloody retribution. But, again I kept reading nonstop ( I pulled it up on all my devices to make sure I could read more wherever I was.) I hope we see more of Brenner, Griff, Shadow, Solomon, the Watchers, Grandma Becket, even Howell. Each has a story to tell and I want to know it:)

I loved this series. I had no expectations because I was just randomly perusing Kindle Unlimited and thought, "Huh, a science fictiony type fantasy. I'll try it." So I read it. Couldn't devour it fast enough. Even though it uses basically traditional werewolf traits, it adds a twist. The feel of an old western with a character of high morality taking out the bad guys while he drifts around the country without his own rudder.

I am drawn to stories with interesting characters and Ded Brenner is one of them. He is deeply damaged, having been experimented on my the military without his consent and expected to be their 'weapon of mass destruction' regardless of his own beliefs. So he escapes and proceeds to go on the run, permanently.

Of course there is a cast of creepy military types chasing him, and a best friend from way back (and I mean way back). Throughout the series, there is a cast of new friends and alliances being built as well and a final showdown with a very definite conclusion. I actually wish there were more than 4 books!

It seemed well written, although the author repeats some phrases over and over that kind of start to be annoying, and of course the few errors here and there that tend to show up in ebooks. However, after this, I read his Hex series, also great and I'm reading his Emily Shadowhunter series right now, so that should tell you that the books are good!

A Howling Good Four Book Series

Each book in this series got better and better. Is Brenner the result of a government experiment or something else? Mix in a vampire, a sociopath, Watchers and a string of evil humans. Did I mention a sidekick who believes in government conspiracies? Each book is full of non-stop action.

The MC is a different kind of hero. He never admits to being one but always ends up getting involved even when he doesn't like it. Being constantly pursued by a really shaky, ruthless agency doesn't hurt the tension level either.

More than once, I thought that either the MC or his friends were going to die for sure and had such a feeling of relief when they survived that it surprised me. He charged into battle every time but he actually does plan ahead when possible and it caught me by surprise that he anticipated some nasty outcomes that I was sure, must have caught him flat footed.

Good characters, wild action, few loose ends and a soft conclusion made this one very good series. I'm glad that I discovered this writer and I'll be looking for his other books.

Not sure what is going on above but I purchased the whole series 1-6 and read them all. I binge read this series. It did get left open that there might be more books in the series which I would purchase if this happens. I was not aware of this author until I saw the first book which was in my to purchase for some time. Then I saw I could purchase the whole series and save some money. Looked good enough and the reviews on first book were good so I purchased. Absolutely no regrets and I devoured this series. I am now looking at another series by this author and will purchase it. This is a great time to binge read. I really like getting a whole series that you can read all the way through. Well worth price and time to read. Now a follower of this author.

Rollicking good read

This is the third series I’ve read by this author and he just gets better. This plain and simple great escape fiction. Don’t read too much into it thinking it’s artsy fartsy literature. This is sit down in your comfy easy chair kick back and enjoy solid good writing. I will admit there is a thread running a through his yarn that appeals to ones’ higher senses but don’t let that get in the way of simple enjoyment. If the weather was better I’d have gone to the park, kicked back with a fine cigar and enjoyed both the cigar and the read.

Interesting concept had me intrigued enough to give the box set a look see. Now some 8 hours later, all 4 books down and wishing there was more! Ded Brenner is a great character. Enjoyed the supporting cast and as I sadi am hopeful for more in the future. Craig Zerf has now written 2 series (The Forever Man & Project Bloodborn) that I am glad to have read. I think I will have to check out the 3rd series in his arsenal as well

Loved the Wolfman

I got this series on Kindle Unlimited and really enjoyed this Author. Craig Zerf”s writing style really pulled me into the stories.
The story Line was well thought out and I loved each character for the part they played. Highly recommend. I liked that it talked about sex like in the 1970’s when they would flash to the next morning and not give all away. Refreshing.

Project Bloodborn

Once again, this author has held my complete attention from 1st page until the last. His characters are the heroes one dreams about. Fearless in their war on evil, but still tender and kind. They make mistakes, but own up to them too. I truly hope this author is busy writing as I am starting his next series as soon as I am done with this review. Last words, read it, you will not be disappointed.

Predictable but still good

If you like pure black and white, good versus evil then this is your series. It's uncomplicated with no shades of gray at all. Bremner is one of the most honorable men that you'll come across and his straightforward way he takes care of business is refreshing. There's bullets, gore, and a lot of dead bad folk. If someone needs killing, Brenner gets done.

A FANTASTIC READ FROM BOOK 1-6

I absolutely fell in love with the first book and read straight thru to book 6. The story line is fabulous, the characters are funny and real with their quips and sniping as they go. I love that darkness us good and I highly recommend the whole series. I just bought book 7 and 8 and I just want to know when will it be made for tv or put on audible? And can I have McLickey Face?

A summer read

I really enjoyed the first book as it was exactly what the author said it was-mayhem and nonstop action. However the plot became repetitive and while I appreciated the good guy ending, the last book was over the top for me, such that many pages were skipped on my way to the end.

Woo hoo!!

This was a super fun read! Great characters, well written, really well researched, and fabulous, realistic character interaction! The plot lines are done progressively well. The main character is a truly heroic, slightly flawed man who tries hard to work through. Recommended reading for those who like adventure, heroics, and a cracking good time!

Another perfect escape from the crazy world. I recommend this series highly and hope he writes faster since I've read almost all of his books!

A good old fashioned ass whoopin'

All the books follow a similar formula, but it works immensely well every time. The author has managed to make raw, brutal fighting blend well with character driven story and growth in a way that is rarely seen, much less done so well. Great read, and a good time all around.

Real werewolf story!

This is a real werewolf tale. Not the romantic tales so popular today, though I enjoy those too. This book is a true good VS evil series of books with tons of violence and bloodshed and things that go bump in the night. It's also a sort of superhero story. It's just a great read.

Quite a lot of action

Near death but some how dug deep and and pulled through it wasn’t brenner getting the dark angel but allowing it to take over him. Self access to the dark did not make him evil there is dark and light and then there is Evil brenner was not then nor ever evil!

Loved it

I thought I would read one book in this series and move on. I loved this series in spite of myself. It was funny and the main character was so at odds with himself, it kept me reading to know how he resolve his issues. I really liked the other supporting cast.
