Hello and welcome. My name is Robert Biggs and to make life easier and in memory of my father whose middle name I took, I write as R V Biggs.

My work centres on real people living real lives in modern times but where themes of love, destiny and the strength of family lie central to each tale. Within each novel, I have endeavoured to weave joy with tragedy, jeopardy with hope, love with loss, and where the extraordinary slips unexpectedly into ordinary lives.

I was born and raised in the Black Country and apart from a year in a Scottish croft (that is a tale in itself) have returned to my roots. I am now retired with my wife Julie, along with memories of our beloved Black Labradors Sadie and Maggie — constant companions on long walks while I worked through plot lines and dialogue.

I worked for 35 years in telecommunications but changed career paths to a managerial supporting role within a local Mental Health NHS trust. It was during the period between these roles that the concept for my first novel Song of the Robin was born.

I am a firm believer that destiny and co-incidence exist hand in hand and this conviction steered much of my writing. A passion for holistic well-being and first-hand experience of the potential healing powers of Reiki, a form of energy therapy, drove me to take a Reiki level 1 training course to heighten my spiritual awareness. Experiences in these areas helped conceive the ideas that led to Song of the Robin and its sequels Reunion and Broken.

When I'm not writing (more often than not), I'll be getting out in the fresh air stretching my legs at National Trust sites, or country parks, or tending the garden. Maybe daydreaming late in the afternoon.

Favorite Quotes:

Sarah wondered how the whole world could turn itself on its head with a few small words. How in the space of a few seconds, joyful moments could change to such devastating ones? She desperately wanted to say a million things… But her voice wouldn’t come, only the tears… there was nothing to say. Since they came from the soul, Hamish would understand her sentiments without the clumsy use of words, without the need to taint the feelings with adjectives.

Sarah sensed the strength of the voice but detected a tiredness within it. A voice that, she felt, could shatter glass if raised enough in volume, but one with a strained edge as if the owner were weary or disguising pain.

There’s no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothes!

My Review:

I am fervently enamored with R.V. Biggs's writing style and descriptive storytelling. I seem to fall into his narratives all too easily and find myself extremely reluctant and quite vexed in having to extricate myself from his tales when my avid perusal is rudely and brazenly interrupted by such frivolous real-life issues such as the need for sustenance, employment, or sleep. His characters are as intriguing and compelling as the storylines they inhabit. I am fully invested and raring to continue on with the third installment, Broken.

And, score! I have a new addition to my Brit Words and Phrases list with clever clogs, which Mr. Google informs, is a person who is annoyingly clever. I’m doubtful anyone could accuse me of that, as I’m just typically annoying. ;)

Reunion is the follow up novel to Song of the Robin by R V Biggs and follows the life of Sarah Macintyre.

This tells of Sarah’s journey after leaving the hospital, but due to some slightly odd experiences, she doubting her own sanity and she wonders if she’s dreaming.

She then receives a letter, in amongst Christmas post, but the brown envelope gives her a feeling that something is about to happen. As she reaches for it, the letter moves…maybe these odd events are real after all.

The tale is about Sarah’s search for the letter writer and the meaning of the letters contents…..

Can Sarah come to terms with her new life and her abilities ?

An absorbing tale of love, tragedy, Faith and the supernatural. Not a quick read, but one to slow down and savour. Thought provoking.

Reunion is the next book in the Sarah MacIntytre series and I found it just as compelling as Song of the Robin. It picks up right after the previous book and we follow Sarah, who is still struggling to determine what’s going on.
I absolutely adore Sarah. She is a character I have grown to care for and am constantly cheering for her. She is so well written, I’m in awe of her character development.
This is an emotional journey, and once again, a book I think you should just read without knowing what it’s about. I think these books should be read in order, because of the timeline, and to avoid confusion. Don’t miss out.

This book is told over two timelines which all comes together as the story unfolds. I was transported to Scotland as Sarah attempts to unravel a mystery hidden behind a letter she receives. This becomes such an emotional journey from which Sarah finds a new meaning to life as she travels upon this journey.
Sarah's best friend Rachel is back in this book too and the fact that Sarah along with Rachel are so well drawn I felt everything these felt. This makes for such an emotional story and you can sense the journey as you feel like you are actually with Sarah.
I think R V Biggs has done, and continues to do through the series, an excellent job with his characters and the continuation of the quality from Song of The Robin.
Another great book that keeps the standard set in the first book.

This is the second book in the Sarah Macintyre series , I absolutely loved the first one and so I had high hopes for this .

In this book we have Sarah Macintyre, she is keen to start her new life over , but her interest and inquisitive nature is peaked when she finds an anonymous letter among a pile .... Will she find out who wrote it ? And will she be able to handle what she uncovers?

This is a fantastic read that takes you on the journey with Sarah , as if you are there with her, you find out even more about her and her past , I felt like I knew her in the last book....I feel I know her even more now. The author has a knack of keeping you going back too the read and keeping you wanting more. Great characters , great storyline and brilliantly written!

A slight trigger warning... there is mention of family bereavement and one reference to a rape

Intriguing

With the first book I wasn't sure where this story was going but Sarah's experience so closely mirrored that of a close friend that I was holding my breath to see how she would develop. In this book the experiences and gifts she has are closer to my own. As someone who is qualified in the kinds of therapy mentioned I was pleasantly surprised to find the author clearly has a good understanding of the alternative healing methods mentioned. Plus it's also a blooming good story!

Earlier this year I read and fell in love with Song of the Robin, the first book in the Sarah McIntyre series, so I was delighted to be offered the chance to read the follow up book. Song of the Robin is one of those really special books that has made its mark on me and I’m so happy to say that I also completely and utterly adored Reunion!

Reunion picks up right after the end of Song of the Robin. Sarah is still struggling with the assault that happened in the previous book, she feels fear about it but she’s also still having strange symptoms. She feels anxious and worried but can’t seem to express to her loved ones what exactly is happening to her. Then one day she receives a strange letter in the post and this leads to Sarah uncovering some secrets and some answers!

I loved this novel, I was under its spell from the opening page until after I turned the final page. Sarah is such a great character and I constantly root for her to be well and to be happy again. I had such a connection to Song of the Robin because of the way grief is explored, it really struck a chord with me, and whilst Reunion moves on from that story the way lost loved ones are spoke of in this book was so wonderful.

This novel follows Sarah and her family for the most part but it also has short chapters from a time in the 1700s as we follow a young woman trying to survive and avenge the trauma that has been inflicted on her family. It’s not clear initially what this has to do with the main plot but it soon begins to come clear and I loved the way we get to put it all together. The atmosphere in this book is wonderful, there is such a sense of time and place, and the people are all so real and believable.

I loved seeing more of Sarah’s friendship with Rachel, they are two women who clearly have such a strong bond. Their relationship is so true to life – the way that sometimes you can’t even tell the people closest to you how you’re feeling and they can sense you holding back but you can’t break through the walls. You get to see more of Rachel in this book and to understand why she is the way she is. I wasn’t expecting the cause of her pain to be what it was but it was so believable and my heart broke for her.

There is loss and pain in this book, things that moved me to tears at times but the overriding feel is one of healing – both physically and emotionally, but it’s also about the act of healing and this is so beautiful.

I love the way the author explores fate and destiny in this book, I’m really drawn to stories about these things. I never used to believe in fate but in my own life, a few years ago, over the course of five months the very worst thing happened to me and then the very best thing happened to me. So many people have said that perhaps it was my late mum who made sure my husband arrived in my life when he did and I take so much comfort from the thought of that. Reunion looks at how the past continues to run through us and it explores how those we’ve lost are never really gone.

There is a mystery running through this book that had me utterly fascinated. I was trying to figure out what was going on along with Sarah and her family, and was utterly gripped by the way the story unfolds in this book. It’s such a great story, and told so brilliantly.

I don’t want to say too much more because future readers should read this book as I did, without knowing too much about it going into it so you get to experience the stunning journey these characters go on for yourself.

I don’t really have the words to describe how much I loved this book (and the previous one). It’s one of those times where I connected with it so much and it now means such a lot to me and I just can’t do it any kind of justice. The first book in the series made my top books of 2019 so far list back at the end of June and I can say for sure that Reunion will be on my favourite books list at the end of the year! Song of the Robin was cathartic and comforting for me, and Reunion was incredibly moving and healing. R. V. Biggs writes such stunning and special novels – I can’t wait to read whatever he publishes next. I highly recommend this series of books, they really are so different and so beautiful.

The second in the Sarah McIntyre series & so much better than the first. This was such a gripping, compelling read, I couldn't put it down & read it in less than 24 hours.

Sarah's character development grew stronger in this book & she totally came into her own as a person. And I love her relationship with her friend Rachel, they have such a strong bond between them.

You have to read the first in the series to truly appreciate the story & it's message.

Book three's review coming next week!

Many thanks to Rachel's Random Resources for my tour spot & gifted copy.

Thanks to Rob Biggs for sending me a copy of all 3 books in his Sarah McIntyre series.

I read the first book (Song of the Robin) so quickly, I thought it was superb for an under-the-radar author and book series. I felt it could rival any of the big well known fantasy series out there today. Rob sent me all 3 books to read, but I didn’t go straight from the first to the second as I needed some time to fully digest what I’d read in the first.

Whilst there were perhaps some questions left after the first book, I didn’t feel there could be enough to warrant another book, especially to the standard of the first one, but I’m so glad I was wrong.

Rob had managed to write another story linked enough to the first so you know the characters and their stories, but it’s definitely its own thrilling, psychological mystery. It never dips in excitement or interest, and if you’re like me and always guessing what is coming, you’ll be pleasantly surprised at all the twists and turns round every corner. As with the first book, I wasn’t able to preempt the twists which kept me on my toes.

My predominate feeling to the first book was entertainment and enjoyment, and whilst I enjoyed this one greatly too, it also posed so many questions and got me thinking about my life end the life around us. You don’t expect a fantasy book to be so thoughtful and life affirming.

I felt this book is more human than the first. Theres more to it than just the fantastical spiritual nature. It’s all about us as humans within that world.

I spent a long time trying to decide if this was as good as the first one, and I think it is. The first one was so unique that it was special and I had nothing to compare it to. But I had that one in the back of my mind whilst reading this. I think the important thing is not to compare them. Yes they’re from the same series, but they’re their own story and are equally brilliant.

I was so looking forward to reading this book as soon as the first one was finished and it certainly didn’t disappoint!
We again follow Sarah who’s powers gradually unfold, and the best thing I found is that we get to know the characters stories more making you more knowledgeable and understanding about their pasts and their friendships.
Like the first book, the story unfolds dramatically and is so addictive I read it in almost one sitting.
Well deserving of the 5 🌟 and catch my review for the third book coming soon! If you haven’t read these then you’re missing out!!!

As with the last book I’m not going to add my own synopsis as one of the things I love about these books is the mystery and how everything unravels, so I don’t want to spoil it for anyone else!

But again, what I will say is that this is brilliant. I really loved the first book, so couldn’t wait to read this and I wasn’t disappointed. There are some fabulous twists in this and plenty of mystery to keep you gripped. And one of the things I particularly enjoyed was the fact that it had me questioning things in life!

There are some heart wrenching moments in this. Reading through I knew certain things would come and I didn’t want it to happen, but the author managed these beautifully.
I loved being back with Sarah. She’s such a brilliant character and I thoroughly enjoyed watching her learn all about herself and her ancestry. As well as the characters from the first book, there are some fabulous new ones, one of which I absolutely adored.

Again, I really enjoyed the authors writing style and how the story unravelled and can’t wait to for book 3 (review to come later this week!). You can read this as a standalone, although I would definitely recommend reading book one – not only to get to know the characters but because it’s also superb! Yet again, highly recommended by me.

In this second book in the Sarah Macintyre series, Sarah is still coming to terms with the traumatic events that changed her life and the way she perceives life.

Since the event (sorry, I'm being purposely cagey for those haven't read the first book in the series), she often feels as if there is someone or something there. Feels touches, movements, pressure to parts of her body - a connection that wasn't there previously. A new world has opened up, but it has also brought unanswered questions and secrets with it.

I think the two stories, the past and present collide as opposed to sliding smoothly into the narrative. The spirituality, the essence of something inexplicable perhaps supernatural or the shadow of memories reverberating in the present. There is a lot going on - it could do with more direction.

At times it feels as if the need to weave the philosophy and beliefs of spirituality into the story with such a vehemence that it's to the detriment of the story itself. I think I was more invested in the short moments with Amber than the majority with Sarah.

The Next Stage of Sarah's Strange Journey

Sarah has come out of the dark tunnel in which she was locked, into the light. She has developed a precious gift and I feel this book is more a spiritual journey than a psychological thriller. Sarah's experience has made her into a woman who cares deeply for others and uses her gift to help them. In this, the second book in the series, a lot of strands have come together to reveal how her own destiny and those of the people around her are connected. The pages turned easily.
