From a young soldier to a POW to a man just trying to get home to his young wife. This is the story of Worth Hampton, told in his own words, of how he survived 27 months in German POW camps during WWII. His training as a soldier, his love of God and country and a brand new wife gave him the determination to make it home to his "promised land".
If I could give this book 4.5 stars I would. It starts out hard to read (for me anyway, because I struggle with no -fiction), but when you realize that the words are straight from him, it changes your whole perspective.
I pictured myself sitting at his knee, listening to old war stories. It bounces around a bit, as he tries to recall his memories, but the end of the book starts flow nicely.
Lots of wit and humor also dispersed throughout the book.
If you love WWII history, I highly suggest this first hand account of this brave soldier.
