God's call is an exciting invitation to an adventure and one where we don't have to take all the responsibility of being in the driving seat - Ruth and Ayo Afolabi.
This small book has taken me months to get through! Prior to picking up this book, I had seen many people recommending this book as one to read. Over time, I finally gave in and picked up a copy. This is my first introduction to the more>books . Both Ruth and Ayo speak vulnerably and honestly of their experiences and learning to trust God with their lives, their careers, and break down what navigating our lives looks like from the perspective of a believer. It starts with learning to rest, understanding his love, his direction, surrender, hearing God through various means like prayer, signs, and wonders, understanding that your pace is not God's pace of doing things, being called to Christlikeness among other areas covered in this book.
This book is a great source of encouragement and reminder to any and every person. The writers beautifully exhort and encourage their audience to draw closer to God as they are only able to really understand God's navigation for their lives from this place. Ruth explained so beautifully that learning more about God should first humble us in our position before him. To go even further, she admonishes and reminds their audience of how much at ease we would feel if we knew who it was that was leading us (God) and encourages us as readers to meditate on God's nature as a way to help us in surrendering our control to God.
If you are looking for a self-help book; a book that provides a shortcut, ctrl, alt, paste formula on how to find your purpose, a 5 step guide to finding your purpose in the usual reductionist format we know all too well, or how to get God to tell you your purpose outside of Him without first understanding His person, his love, his truth, this is not the book for you. It has none of that but rather, It pushes you to seek and value God not because he can reveal to what your purpose is but more so, understanding you in light of who He is. It also exhorts its readers to grow in their love and understanding of God so things such as trusting him, resting in him, learning his ways, and having depth in your relationship with him is at the forefront.
Lastly, I particularly loved how they prayed through the different chapters for each reader as the book was drawn to a close.
I enjoyed reading this book, as someone trying to understand my unique purpose this book was very different from the usual messages of “work hard” & “do what you enjoy”. It reminds us to put first things first and not be overwhelmed.
