This book gives a very comprehensive overview of all aspects of spoken language processing. It was written by leading members of the spoken language community (Expert Advisory Group on Language Engineering Standards). It is a very valuable reference source for designers of spoken language systems. Each chapter is concluded by a set of recommendations. For readers with a linguistics or CS background, it provides a comprehensive survey of all aspects of spoken language processing, and can be used as introduction to the field. Annoyingly, the book contains a number of typos, and could benefit from thorough proofreading.
