I have heard people say, when you leave this world you cannot take anything with you. Well I am not so sure I agree with that; you can take the knowledge that you tried to make the world a better place. This is a book about leadership, what it looks like to me, and how I came to discover what that really means. The goal of this book is to inspire others to build a better future for themselves, and with the many stories it contains you will see how no matter what challenges you face, you can overcome them. All you need is a Belief-In-Self, and you will always find a solution to whatever life throws at you. As you travel with me, we will discuss events that occurred in my life and what it took to overcome them. You will see what it is like to lead Marines and what it takes to become one; what it looks like to take on challenges when almost everyone is telling you "it cannot be done," and then succeed. This book is a guide to doing just that. I will share with you the passion for others, the commitment it takes to overcome, and what effect that will ultimately have on you.

About the author

Allen Filson was born in York, Pennsylvania but has lived in 9 different states, and several different countries. A graduate of Elizabethtown College, and a Sergeant in the U.S. Marines, Allen has received awards for academic excellence and has also been praised by several U.S. Marine Corps commanders during his time leading men in the Marines. His first book, "Belief-In-Self," was 5 star rated by Readers Choice, multiple other authors, and book publishers in the UK. Allen has a very unique writing style, where he speaks to the reader as if you are having a conversation, not reading a book. Allen's decades of leadership experience has been shared in his books. Written for those just starting out in their career as well as those looking to achieve more, they can, and do help people change their lives. Allen has a passion for people, and in helping others, his books are written from a perspective of serving others. As a Christian author Allen speaks to your heart as he writes, which is a very unique gift as a writer. His books are life changing for many who read them.

This is an interesting, very personal memoir about one American man´s journey through life and what he has learned from it.
The first six chapters are devoted to Filson´s Marine training and service in Kuwait in the first Gulf War. They provide a very close-up, visceral view of training and action. As the title of the book suggests, Filson takes time to paint portraits of, and discuss, the leaders and influential characters he encounters during his time in khaki. It is these leaders, along with his life experiences, which shape his "belief-in-self" philosophy.
The second part of the book discuss Filson´s experiences on civvy street: getting a job, dealing with his family issues and becoming successful in his chosen career. Along the way there are personal descriptions of his working life and, again, he draws out certain circumstances and personalities to illustrate what he feels are good and bad leaders and leadership examples.
Throughout the book he details his theory of "belief-in-self".

This is My book, so I am a little biased when it comes to a review. This took me two years to create, and many, many revisions until it was finally released. I hope my story inspires you and helps you find your own Belief-In-Self, that was my goal when I wrote it.

First let me say, this is my husband's book, but I've worked in the book world for years and am an avid reader. That being said, it think he did a remarkable job writing this book. He gives several examples, both good and troubling throughout his life, that have made him have the the belief in himself that he has. I hope you take the time to read his book, it's very inspiring.
