Showdown At Apache Butte

Rate this book
A new novel from USA Today Bestselling Author R. Cameron Cooke... Mountain man and army scout Jacob Utah is called to guide a cavalry patrol across the harsh, relentless Arizona Territory. The purpose of the mission is a secret, known only to the soldiers. That suits Utah just fine, until the seemingly simple job takes a deadly turn. A mysterious sharpshooter begins shadowing the patrol, killing the soldiers one-by-one. Utah soon discovers the men he rides with are not what they seem, that they have a dark history which is coming back to haunt them. With fierce Apaches on the warpath and a sadistic gunman doggedly pursuing them at every turn, Utah must lead his dubious companions through scorching desert sands, treacherous canyons, and narrow mountain passes to reach an abandoned outpost at a place called Apache Butte, where old scores will be settled, and blood will be spilt...

Should be a movie..

I am not much for writing reviews. I have read 120 books so far this year and believe this to be my second review. When I see a 4 or 5 star review on a book I kind of expect it to be good. Seldom do I find one I consider excellent. I like westerns and lawyer yarns. When I was growing up western movies and tv shows were prolific. After many years they had all but burnt out and started to look the same. Today westerns are more modern but only a few really good ones have been produced. I think this book would make an excellent modern western movie. The suspense that the tale weaves has nearly a spiritual aspect to it. Once when trying to figure where it was going I almost expected zombies or ghost type indian spirits to jump out of the pages. Many surprises along the way with action a plenty. This is a seriously good read. Try it you will like it.

DIABLO AZURE

Murders committed eight years ago against ranch owner of Hermosa Cass, Jedediah Trethaway whose wife was violated and murdered along with a devoted couple who worked on the ranch. Jedediah Trethaway was then falsely accused of murdering and entire village of Native Americans, he was sentenced to twenty years in Yuma Prison, a he'll hole on earth. There were hopes that Trethaway would die in prison and therefore free the guilty ones who can pursue their lives after they find a buyer for "DIABLO AZURE."
Lots of human misery and backstabbing, greed and those who felt that they were held back by the government from reaching their desired positions in society, whom they felt held them back..also illustrates how people in high positions used that power to destroy and hide what vile evil deeds they might have done.

A different kind of western. Not your typical good guy, bad guy, or gunslinger novel. I will consider reading more by R Cameron Cooke.
