this is a good book to learn more about the civil rights movement, i learned a lot about different leaders i was never taught about. it’s also good to glean attitudes of the time since these are all articles from days after various civil rights demonstrations, etc. however, it’s a document of the times in both a good and bad way and reflects the biases of the time. i liked that many of the journalists spent time with leaders such as MLK and and Bobby Seale so many of the included articles featured quotes at length and snapshots of moments with these leaders. these articles were all written by different journalists so of course the biases of each chapter/article depends on the journalist writing it. I don’t particularly think the black power movement was properly depicted in many of the articles, but more through rhetoric used than misrepresenting their views or actions.
