Preparing for the Lord's Supper can be a daunting task. This is a holy occasion in the life of the believer. Sometimes a fresh look at the meaning of this event, whether we call it the Lord's Supper, Communion, or Eucharist is needed. TABLE TALKS supplies material and scriptural references to meet the demands of the celebration. Whether your audience has "heard it all before" or you have visitors who aren't sure what it is all about, this book will help you get the wonderful message across. There is also a format for celebrating the Christian Seder Meal around Easter time, commemorating the Passover event of the Old Testament while bringing the full meaning of Christ's sacrifice for us to the participants.
I appreciated several of the illustrations and explanations in this book, but I was a little disappointed that several of these were used early on and then repeated again, often with the same or very similar wording. I also felt like the book was lacking because there was not much focus at all on the presence of Christ at the table or the transformative work of the Holy Spirit in the lives of communicants. There was a mention of Communion being a means of grace, theme and focus overall was much more on Communion as a way of looking back, looking around, public declaration of faith, and looking forward. I wish there had been more clear emphasis on looking to Christ to minister to us in the present.
