The book pens an interesting journey of JRD TATA through his various speeches. There is little commentary from the author and the book relies heavily on his speeches at various events or in the annual reports of the Group companies to drive JRD's visions and ideas.

What started as an adventure to become a pilot and certified as the first India pilot in 1930 culminated as the Maharaja Air India we know today. The story elaborately covers all of it. JRD's passion for airlines and fling, his participating in the Aga Khan competition and even driving aircraft till 1990 was commendable. However the most interesting pieces on the book is definitely the social agenda on the TATA Group and JRD fight against the growing socialism and the license Raj. Both these ideas might seem at loggerheads but the book paints a humanizing picture to it.

JRD famously said- He didnot wanted India to be an economic super power but he wants it to be happy. That is what he stood for to achieve in his lifetime. Whether it was opening up of TATA Airlines or expanding businesses or fighting license Raj, he never gave up. Building India was a cornerstone of his policy which he willingly pursued. The book covers his fight against population control for which he was conferred the UN Population Award in 1992.

The political swings during the post independence era has been convered right from the socialist Bombay Plan written by the capitalist like JRD who thought you can grow by involving the private sector too. However he becomes critical of the government policies especially when the word economic concentration of power because a taboo. On lighter mood he always though what kind of power was it , for he was never able to yield or understand it !!! But he was for the India and the Indians and everything was acceptable to him.

The book also touches on topics like a Presidential System of Governace to tackle challenges of fragment polity and diversity, Vision 2030, demographic bulge and challenges of skilling and education find mention in his records. These points put him in line with visionaries who actually saw the country several decades ahead. He also talked about low tax compliance and challenges on urban centers post migration which are all very relevant today.

Read for a light inside view on the thinking of one of the great leaders who probably shaped how corporate work and what business ethics stand for.
