An excellent, brief summary of a towering figure in history written by one of the leading scholars on the Sun King. While Louis XIV's power, longevity, and family interests entwined all of Europe into conflict and competition for decades, despite his prestige he was not able to lever his position into earning a sobriquet like "le Grand" (the Great), yet his influence was enormous for decades if not centuries.
