Part of a new series of vehicle board books by Nosy Crow, Look, There’s a Tractor! features engaging cut-out circles that invite the reader to make guesses about the next spread. Small readers will enjoy tracing the circles or sticking their fingers through to the next page. The well-written and age-appropriate rhyming text also helps the reader actively participate in the book, saying “Look, there’s…” at the beginning of each spread, and asking “Can you” look for things on the page. There’s something for every reader, whether one loves animals or vehicles, as the viewers follow the tractor around the farm looking for a lost hen. Colorful digital illustrations feature large objects, including lots of sweet animals and the tractor on each page, as well as one unique spread looking out through the windshield. The last page reveals the missing hen, along with egg shells and brand-new chicks. Children ages 0-4 will enjoy sharing this title again and again with a loved one, and the book could also work well as a read-aloud for small groups.

First sentence: Look, there's a tractor and an empty chicken pen! Can you spot the rabbit and help the farmer find his hen?

Premise/plot: Little ones can help "find" a missing hen in this new board book published by Candlewick Press. It is written in rhyme. It is set on a farm.

My thoughts: I liked this brightly illustrated board book. It is a fun book to share with little ones. Though it's set on a farm, it doesn't highlight animal noises. Most farm books do! So this one does offer something different to the mix.

BUYING ADVISORY: PRE-K – ADVISABLE

AUDIENCE APPEAL: HIGH

In this lightly rhyming board book, a farmer travels his far on a tractor, looking for a lost hen. Circle peek through the pages offers little things to look for and do. It feature bright bold colors and easy to recognize shapes

You can’t go wrong with this board book. It’s appealing, well written, and the artwork is fantastic. There are so many things this book can offer when read with an individual child or small group. How many sheep? What fruit is growing on the trees? How many daisies on this page? The pages are sturdy and high quality.

Great board book that is engaging and short. The cut outs keep the reader guessing about what will happen on the next page.

Perfect for 18 m/o Bud who was delighted by the vibrant images on each page. On each page there is a cut out section to the next page that will be used to create a new image- for example the sheep’s wool on one page became the cracked egg shells on another page. A lovely idea and less prone to ripping than atypical lift the flap book. This was a library book and definitely one we would take out again.
