Paperback. This is a reflection on the ageing societies in the Western World. It is organised in three the first on social relationships, family and ageing, the second on the labour market, retirement and the pension system, and the last part on health care and ageing. The emphasis is on the opportunities and challenges and not on the problems of an ageing society. In contrast to many studies in this area, the editors do not like to dramatise the future of ageing societies and prefer to look at the process in proportion. The editors are of the opinion that there is a cumulation of negative scenarios without any perspective on the possible opportunities because of the changing age structure of society.
