Priscilla gets the painting hanging over her fireplace cleaned. Turns out, there's a famous and valuable painting underneath...and it was stolen 50 years ago. Uh-oh!
Meanwhile, Gerald is considering retiring and moving away. Whatever happened to the politician wooing her?
This is book #14 in the Mysteries of Martha's Vineyard. Priscilla decides to take the painting above her fireplace to be cleaned and the person cleaning it find another painting underneat. A very expensive painting that disappeared many years ago from a museum. Who painted over it and how did it end up in Priscilla's cottage? During Priscilla's investigation she finds out that there was a group of people who got together in the summer and painted, including her Aunt and her Mother, but when she tries to question people about it they clam up or ask her to leave. The FBI shows up because of the theft of fine art and Priscilla is their first suspect. Kept me wondering and turning the page.
My only complaint about this book is her relationisship with Gerald. Now he might leave the Island to follow his daughter and her family. I just wish they would be honest with each other. It is like a Hallmark movie. Every time they are going to "talk" they get interrupted.
When Priscilla sends out an old painting for cleaning, she doesn't expect to end up in handcuffs, arrested for art theft. The painting of the cottage and lighthouse, thought to have been done by her aunt, is covering up a famous painting by a well-know New England artist. The painting had been stolen fifty years earlier and many of her friends, plus her mother and aunt, are also under suspicion for the theft.
Priscilla has to find out who stole the painting and who painted over it, hiding the crime. She fears the answer, since her mother and beloved aunt might have been involved.
Making matters even worse, Gerald might be moving to Boston with his daughter when her husband is up for a job in that city. Will Priscilla lose the man she is starting to fall for?
Another great addition to the "Mysteries of Martha's Vineyard" series by Guideposts. Priscilla Latham Grant takes a painting to be cleaned and finds herself caught up in the world of stolen art and buried secrets. Can she find out what's going on before she herself is brought in for a crime?
This has to be one of my favorites in the series so far. The setting, characters, mystery, intrigue, touch of romance...all conspire to create a wonderfully refreshing read.
This one is about art thefts in Martha's Vineyard. I enjoyed the autumn island setting and the journey to the truth. Also, the romance is getting closer to happening, which makes me happy.
