In this book about separation anxiety, the reader is introduced to Davey, a little boy, on the night before his first day of school. Davey is angry and confused about why his parents want him to leave the house. When he goes to bed that night, he dreams that he is a prince, and that his parents, the king and queen, have sent him on an adventure in the forest. At first, he is angry, and imagines himself as a dragon that burns the forest down, until he begins to worry that the fire will reach his castle. After checking to see that everyone is alright, he continues his journey, playing with the animals in the forest and sharing his food with them. After a time, he returns home. When Davey wakes, he is more comfortable leaving to go to school. The book uses fantastical elements to ease children into the idea that leaving home is just a new adventure for them, rather than a punishment or a problem. 30 pages.

Resources: There is an introduction for parents.
