A year after her mother’s disappearance while rafting through the Grand Canyon, San Diego-based journalist Andee Russell receives news that her mom’s bones have been recovered in a shallow grave. With the realization that her mother’s death was no accident, the fragile balance in her life begins to crumble. Using her investigative skills to track down the people who saw her mother last, Andee begins a tireless search to find out what really happened on the river trip, and who among them could be a killer.
Bell has written a compelling mystery—a murder, multiple suspects, interesting characters and a bit of romance thrown in for good measure. As a member of the Mustang Writer’s group in Arizona which Carrie led for many years, I was reading with purpose and pen in hand as I made note of the literary techniques she employed so well. Each chapter ended in a way that made me want to start right in on the next one. Her prose is straight forward, dialogue is perfect, characters well defined. I loved the protagonist, Andee. I’d heard parts of the book in the middle stages in our group and was especially eager to find out how it ended. Sadly, I will not be able to tell her in person how much I enjoyed it. She was an amazing woman whose life was cut short way too soon. Proceeds from the sale of this book will be donated to Breast Cancer charities.
