What can you do when your dream is shattered and your life falls apart?
Breaking Point--first novel of the "Return" series--is a story about two Christian men: one seeking for self worth and appreciation, the other longing for a lost brother in Christ. Twenty-year-old Casey Fleury, wants to make the NHL to prove his worth and gain appreciation from those around him, but his over-competitiveness and life's misfortunes hinder him. A Christian of a few years, Casey wants to be like his former minor hockey teammate, Kenneth Johnson, who is flourishing in the NHL after walking away from God. Meanwhile,
Adam Point longs for Casey's return to God's family, but his faith is shaken after Casey injured him during a hockey game and after learning about Casey's misfortunes.
As life's troubles consume Casey and doubts in God choke Adam, only one option remains as both Casey and Adam reach their respective breaking point...
Born in Hong Kong and immigrated to Canada at twelve, I live in Vancouver, BC where I eventually became a Christian in 2006. I enjoy reading and excelled in creative writing since young, but now I have the courage to write and share my stories to the world. To date, I have self-published three e-books--two short-story collections and a novel.
Aside from my website, here are the various ways you can learn more about my books and me:
Breaking Point is a novel about faith, friends, and dreams. Going into this book I didn’t really know what to expect, and I was pleasantly surprised with it.
The book focuses on two characters : Casey and Adam. They are rivals in the hockey world, both competing to be the best. Both characters are really different and I really enjoyed both of their stories. I loved that they used to be friends growing up. It definitely added to the story with them not only being rivals, but knowing that they were once friends. The plot was really good, and never got boring.
I was also really surprised with the authors writing. He has a really good writing voice. Just looking at the story, you see that it’s about hockey and two guys, so I was thinking that it was maybe leaned towards guys. I was wrong though. There is some romance in it and though it does focus on two guys and a sport, I think many people would enjoy this book. I’ve always enjoyed sports and that just made me like this book that much more.
Overall, I was impressed with this story. This author did a really good job with it and I look forward to his other writings!
Although I'm not a fan of most sports, I enjoyed learning more about hockey while reading this book. It was very interesting.
Casey's struggles through life were so real - I found myself annoyed and sad throughout reading this. It was hard to know how to feel because a lot of his decisions weren't right. The madness he had reminded me of myself at times. Being backslidden from God is never a good thing! I'm glad things turned around and he figured out how to straighten his life out again.
Adam was probably my favourite character! Even though he was hurt by his used-to-be friend, he still cared for him. And he didn't stop praying for him!
Content:
Overall, I did enjoy this book! I think my rating would be higher if there wasn't so much of the content I mentioned. The ending was really good and I feel so much happier that Casey's right with the Lord and with his friends now. And that cover! It's really good!
