A fantastic read! I was glad I bought this in a whim from the discount pile at my local comic book shop. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The art is gritty and grotesque and full of mean bright colours. It reminds me of those awesome B grade movies I like watching but done so much better. Zombo is a great guy. Not a hero but not a villain however there is something child like about him. He is a zombie but a zombie with a sense of caring. He asks if he can eat you and if you say no then, he won’t. He’ll help you and take down the bigger monsters. Each character in this story has its own uniqueness and adds to the suspense and atmosphere of the story. It keeps you wanting to read and know more. The story is very engaging. This is the first time I’ve picked up a 2000AD digest format comic book but it’s a good format especially if these are single stand alone stories. I would however like to have more Zombo. If you’re in the mood for some strange horror and grittyness and some damn good storytelling then this is something you should definitely pick up.
One of those slightly frustrating 2000AD strips in which there's a fun central concept but it never really goes anywhere. It's suitably bonkers and gory and over the top, Henry Flint's artwork is as good as ever, but the whole thing feels like it just needs a little push to really sing. In many ways it feels like a prologue, but it's 100 pages long.
Great fun, a compelling premise, but it all feels a bit superficial.
