Wyvern Chronicles #3.5

Dear Santa,
All I want this year is some new caltrops and explosive crossbow bolts. Oh, and a Dragon Prince all tied up with a ribbon.
From Charani, Dragon Hunter for the Wyvern Empire

Charani didn't expect a routine job to take out a couple of rogue dragon hunters would lead her to a Dragon Prince, not tied up in a bow, but rather in chains and starving. She understood the chains as it was never a good thing to starve a dragon who had been around before the signing of the treaty between men and dragons. If ever freed he was likely to see any human near by, not as a friend, but rather as a light snack.

Dimitri has been a prisoner for hundreds of years. The dragon hunter who frees him is little more than a morsel but he doesn't want to eat her as a snack but he does want to devour her. Awkward after so many years enslaved he has to find his voice to ask Charani be more than just the woman who freed him.

This is a sweet steampunk inspired novelette set around Christmas.

Charani was a great choice for a short story. I loved seeing how Harlen encouraged her to develop her Dragon Hunter abilities. Though she is capable and has the ability to be a ruthless fighter, seeing the tenderness that she cares for Dimitri is so heartwarming. Great short read!

Title:
Dragons and Terrans with a treaty: still get tripped by the ladies . . . .

Even though I m reading this from the middle, rather than the beginning, this book definitely has possibilities!

The setting time-wise seems to be Steampunkian (leaning more to the more antiquated parts of that universe) yet, is modern enough for the characters to interact with different species.

She kissed her dragon under the mistletoe and explained that it was a custom of the people in the area (during the solstice) to kiss. He grabbed her and proceeded to show her how to kiss. Proving that some women who are equal to any man, can be lost in some aspects of life.

When she does wake up to the fact that she s found her life s mate, it makes you (me anyway) want to go back and read what you ve missed upto this point, or continue on to see how their story continues.

Delightful

This story is actually about a character that appeared in the author’s short story collection. While it can be read alone, the earlier short story helps to flesh it out. Writing style probably placed it at a 3, my enjoyment made it worth a 4 to me.
