"All the stars eventually fall from the sky above the Ramsey home in Boulder, all except the Black Star...."
21 years after JonBenét Ramsey case has gone cold, is there anything we can salvage from the ashes of one little girl’s life?
Black Star Over Bethlehem targets the 2007-2008 timeline in the Ramsey archive, but delves in laser-sharp detail into many other areas of the case, including the lights inside the Ramsey residence on the night of the murder, the origin of the duct tape, theories around Asperger's syndrome, the polygraph narrative, the bogus DNA narrative and many hitherto unknown investigative coups and catastrophes that happened along the way, long before the case went cold.
"Instead of a star over Bethlehem, there’s a darkness where a bright star used to be....The JonBenet Ramsey case is a mythic example of the rubbing out of America's Christmas Star, and replacing it with a Black Star..."
One thing you can say about van der Leek's treatment of the JonBenet case is that he keeps on thinking. Some of the psychological analysis is enlightening in particular. I'm glad he's continued with another Ramsey case series because this whole country is unsatisfied. We're unsatisfied with Boulder detectives, with Boulder DAs, and with the Ramsey family. Nothing came clean out of that wash and we don't accept it. I'll keep reading. BTW, there are fewer stupid typos in this piece than in earlier ones but for goodness sake please get a proofreader.
