I start, but don't always finish, many devotionals. Sometimes, I don't relate to the book's author. Other times, some books don't use a lot of Scripture but read more like a memoir. I didn't experience that with this devotional. It was an excellent balance of Scripture, prayer, and relatable, encouraging stories.

I recently finished an advance copy of Start with Praise and I loved it. There were some days that really touched my heart because of the day’s circumstances. But the best part was the cumulative effect of going through these short chapters on praise, confession, thankfulness, and intercession. I looked forward to reading it each day. I highly recommend it! I felt so encouraged by this book.

The books' authors are involved with Moms in Prayer International, a prayer ministry, but you don't have to be familiar with Moms in Prayer or involved in a group to enjoy this devotional.

I just purchased one to give as a gift to a friend, and I imagine I will be doing so again!

This 40-Day Devotional follows the Moms in Prayer format. It's divided up in four steps of prayer. The first ten devotionals are about praising God. The second ten are about peace and power. The third group of ten devotionals are about the power in giving thanks and the last group is ten devotionals about interceding with powerful prayers for others. Before getting into the devotionals, the authors talk about what prayer is and why God wants us to pray to Him. Through the lessons you will learn about the Father, His character, His names, and His attributes. I loved the way these authors used several scriptures in each devotional. At the end, they take us through three steps Praise, Confession and Thanksgiving using scripture always. I got something different out of each lesson, continually highlighting and taking notes. A statement that resonated with me, “What is it God wants to do through you? What are you created for?” Start With Praise was not only an enjoyable read but I found it life changing for me. I received a copy of this book from Harvest House Publishers through NetGalleys. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

This devotional is right on in when it states that "starting with praise reframes our thinking. As soon as we begin praising God, our thoughts are transformed. We are reminded that we're giving this problem over to the God who created the entire universe. Of course, He can take care of whatever concerns us!"

There are 40 daily devotionals, each starting with scripture and then devotional content teaching you how to pray effectively and why praise is such an integral part, followed by a scripted prayer as an example to follow with 5 sections: Praise, Confession, Thanksgiving, Intercession and Petition. This is a good way to quiet your heart and start or end your day with your focus on the Lord. I appreciated what was said in the book, and I love the idea behind it but I did find it a little dry and wordy.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Harvest House through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

"You may say you're powerless to do anything as you hear what governments are doing and the corruption that abounds. You may feel powerless as you see what is happening in your neighborhoods, cities, and states... You are NOT powerless. Your voice WILL be heard as you cry out to God. Your voice has a great power to impact a family, a village, a city, a state, a nation, and our world for Christ." - Sally Burke, "Start With Praise" (p. 203, emphasis mine).

I couldn’t wait to “Start With Praise” along with Sally Burke and Cyndie Claypool de Neve, especially after reading their book published last year, “Unshaken,” which transformed the way I thought about and approached prayer. I knew this book was more of a daily devotional spread out over 40 days, but had no idea how much it would impact me.

The 40 devotionals are broken up into groups of 10, each focusing on one of the “Four Steps of Prayer” (those familiar with Moms in Prayer will know these steps well!): Praise, Confession, Thanksgiving, and Intercession. But here’s the bonus: while the topic of that day’s 2-3 page devotional may be only one of those categories, each day includes Scriptures to pray in ALL four steps! So for every chapter, there’s a new verse to praise God with, confess to Him with, thank Him with, and use to intercede for others—plus a bonus verse to pray for yourself. It’s a simple format, and not overwhelming--you can spend as much or as little time on it as your schedule allows. What I liked best is that because I tend to have bigger chunks of prayer time later in my day (hello, carpool line!), I often neglect to stop for a few moments of meditation and reflection first thing in the morning. With this devotional, I’ve gotten in the habit of not just starting with praise, but starting my entire day with praise!

Another thing I love about this book is that after you finish the 40 chapters, you can go back and do them over again—in order, by topic, or just mix and match verses from each chapter (it’s so handy to have them printed right in the book). Much like I do with “Unshaken,” I know I will be referencing the passages in this book regularly. Highly recommend!

I had the unique opportunity to preview the brand new book Start with Praise by Sally Burke and Cyndie Claypool De Neve. What a joy it was to read Start With Praise.

However, you must know the book is not just about praise as I thought it was going to be! This book is about the four steps of prayer based on the Lord’s Prayer!

Throughout this book, Sally and Cyndie take you on a forty day journey of learning how to pray as Jesus prayed! Start With Praise is filled with stories and practical examples using these four steps.

The first ten days focus on having a heart of praise when you pray. The next ten days are focused on confession and then a ten day focus of Thanksgiving. The book concludes with ten days concentrating on intercession. Often, when we pray, we tend to focus all our time on intercession! Using this book as a tool will help you develop your prayer life into a time of not just asking God for your needs but also praising who He is, confessing to Him and thanking Him.

Some may recognize Sally Burke from her role at Moms In Prayer International. Sally draws on her experience at Moms In Prayer to help readers understand and appreciate the power of prayer.

Start With Praise is an excellent resource on prayer. I was given a free copy of Start With Praise for my honest review, but would have purchased it anyway as it is an great book!

This devotional book so beautifully models the powerful Four Steps of prayer. Starting with Praise...it brings you to the very throne room of the One who can help us on this special journey. It brings us to our Lord and Master, Commander of the Heavenly armies, provider, God of hope, mercy and love and we find out nothing is too hard for God!
In the confession section we see in the devotions the freedom, victory and power God gives us as a forgiven clean vessels God can use.
Sally tells us the deep truth about giving thanks, that it is a powerful weapon. She shares it is an important part of the armor: the shield of faith able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Cyndie shares, "When we cast our life in the big picture view that our Heavenly Father sees, our mood changes. Yes, there is still pain - but it feels like pain with a purpose."
Interceding with scripture is the most powerful words we can speak. God's very words back to Him. The nuggets of truth in this wonderful devotional book help us to live victoriously.

Start with Praise is a guided prayer devotional I look forward to using each morning. The devotionals are encouraging and relatable. It is inclusive of the four parts of prayer with a short devotional describing the value of Scriptural praise, confession, thanksgiving and requests. Once I begin reflecting on and praying an attribute or character trait of God, it is something I carry with me throughout the day. Writing out answers to prayer and what I am thankful for helps me to slow down and reflect on God's goodness. Each day there is opportunity to pray a Scripture-based prayer for another person. I have occasionally shared this with the person I prayed for and they are greatly encouraged by God's Word. I am now developing the habit of praying a petition for myself based on the verse that day and like to meditate on or write out what it means to me. I recommend Start with Praise to enrich your personal prayer times.

Start with Praise is an uplifting and powerful boast for anyone’s prayer life. I love the way it simplifies and demystifies how to have a vibrant and vital prayer life. I ordered 8 copies to give as gifts to friends who want to pray “better”.

Reading the devotional, Start With Praise, Living Empowered Through Prayer has enabled me to FOCUS on the Lord through Praise, Confession, Thanksgiving, and Intercession. Sally and Cyndi shared personal experiences and stories from true prayer warriors to look to the one who can truly empower you.

This book arrived at my doorstep just when I needed to be focused again in training my thoughts and staying grounded in the Lord. Prayer deepens our relationship with the Lord and this book draws you to establish a daily dependence on Him. I particularly enjoyed the bible verses provided for each day modeling praise, confession, thanksgiving and intercession/petition.

This book is a 40-day devotional that takes you from Praise, to Confession, to Thanksgiving, and then to Intercession--all vital to a powerful prayer life not only for your own relationship with the Lord for a powerful way to pray and intercede for others, to make an impact on their lives. Each days readings are only a few pages and end with a time to personally practice each of these parts of power-filled prayer. Something happens when you "start with praise" and filter your prayers through knowing who God is. Your spirit is empowered--You know who your God is and you become emboldened to pray deep.

I've loved this book!! When I started my needs were simple- surviving the place in life where I'm at has been challenging! Our youngest daughter graduated from high school, and we've found ourselves in different places the last couple years with our oldest in grad school.
Our LORD reminded me early on "not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit says the LORD of hosts" (Zech 4:6) He's answered a long prayed for request for one daughter! It's also become clear, I need to start fasting again. Refreshed, rejuvenated, and ready for whatever comes next.

After having read Sally’s book Unshaken last summer (and loving it), I thought that Start with Praise would be a good choice for this summer. It has been such a wonderful addition to my mornings and I’m so thankful that I picked it up. It has helped me create of habit of praise, confession, thanksgiving, intercession for others and petition for myself. This book will stay on my bedside for years to come.

Start with Praise is a wonderful prayer devotional. I love the way that the authors pull scripture in and bring to life the prayers, praises, etc. of the Bible. I also liked the prayer prompts. Sometimes we can get into our quiet time and have difficulty quieting our soul. I believe that this book is perfect for those of us who need some help quieting down and knowing how to pray in a meaningful way.

After reading Unshaken, I knew I would not be disappointed with Start With Praise. Our thinking is reframed when we follow the 4 steps of prayer, beginning with Praise and Adoration!
~I loved how Sally and Cyndie walked us through some of the names of God with which to praise Him, such as Elohim (God, my Creator), Jehovah Sabaoth (The LORD of Hosts), Adonai (Sovereign LORD), Jehovah Jireh (The LORD Provides), and Jehovah Mekoddishkem (The One Who Sets us Apart).
~In the section on Confession, we are reminded to give God our worries, because worry feeds itself. Cyndie says, "My fretting was overriding my faith, peace, contentment, and joy. It was time to confess." Confession is a daily clearing-the-channel between you and God.
~Thanksgiving is intentionally remembering the answers to our prayers. We can transform our thinking by focusing on what we're thankful for in that situation. God says to be thankful IN all circumstances (not necessarily FOR all circumstances!)
~Intercession is focusing on praying for others by praying the Scriptures for them. If we pray God's Word, it does not come back void, but accomplishes His will. His Word IS His will! If we persevere in prayer for others, God will answer in ways that are more thank all you ask or imagine.
~Petition, although not officially part of the 4 steps of prayer, is turning the scripture into a prayer for ourselves. Yes, it is important to pray for ourselves! I really appreciated these, because it helped me apply the verse to my own life.

I've never been really good with devotionals. I find one, I begin it... But alas, I find myself stopping before I'm finished. Not because I want to, but because I've allowed other things to come before my devotional time: kids, work...

But Start with Praise excited me. It got me going and it got me finishing. Complete with 40 daily devotionals, Start with Praise is divided up into groups of ten where each group focuses on the "Four Steps of Prayer" which are Praise, Confession, Thanksgiving and Intercession.

Start with Praise is a journey into finding yourself praying just as Jesus himself did. Filled with stories and examples, the journey is fulfilling and full of scripture. A wonderful resource for prayer, this book helps you to develop a prayer life.
