Much better than last two books on criminal justice. This gives an ethnographic view into the day to day practices of the police force in the 1960s. Really valuable information about the implications of acting within and without the law. Also, not shockingly, translates very well to modern day issues with the police force.

Read this book for a criminology course. One of those foundational texts to read as a criminology scholar. Be prepared to compare most modern work on police organizations to this hallmark (though obviously outdated) ethnography.
