While starting the book, and reading the study guide by Ray Moore, it helps the reader delve better into the material with a clearer understanding from the author, Toni Morrison, who gives the readers symbolism, metaphorically and spiritual concepts that may be novice to most readers. Some things I was able to depict from the dialogue, hearing people in my family from an older generation, use such similes and such, or slang from the Midwest, and other parts, I am trying to grasp its meaning in the context. Therefore, his study guide is very useful and will share with the book club readers to dissect into the reading and have great discussions as a whole.

The character list is very helpful to keep you on track while reading, and does give some spoilers.

Author does forewarn the reader that the introduction does give away spoilers. Therefore, I will pass out later, but may still need the characters' list and opening section(s) as we read to discuss as a group.

I would recommend this to book clubs, high school students who may have to read the literature, and college students to dissect the first novel by Toni Morrison. This is a guide to assist readers as well.

Disclaimer: I purchased a copy to help the readers in the book group and giving my honest review on the material presented inside the book.
