A gorgeous new picture book about fitting in and standing out Charlie’s a very clever lion. He loves art, fancy restaurants and travelling. Or at least, he thinks he would. It’s hard to tell, since he’s stuck in a zoo.
If Charlie is ever going to explore the world, he’ll need a cunning disguise.
Charlie Lion embarks on an excursion of discovery and getting in touch with his arty, indulgent side after donning a clever disguise to fool people that he's on the roam away from home. But has he really travelled that far? Young readers will delight in Charlie's adventures, appreciating that you don't always have to leave the zoo to get somewhere and do something. A playfully illustrated tale of imagination from a young person's point of view.
I'm not really sure how I felt about the book. There were some super cute moments - like when he knits the sweaters for the penguins in case they are cold - but ultimately this is a book about being forced to live in disguise rather than being about acceptance and I found that really sad.
