This book about Puerto Rico was written in 1938; 40 years after the island became associated with the USA. The intention of the book is to attract tourism and monies from potential investors from the continent. It begins with a brief recount of the history of the island and how it was conquered by Spain. Then it talks a little bit about the geography and how some really bad earthquakes have punished this great land. Finally it describes its educational system; which it criticizes; its politics which it strongly dislikes (and shows a wikileaks-style letter from a Cornelius P. Rhoads doctor that wrote so many bad things about the island and its people saying that they must be exterminated and that he had implanted cancer on them); and its economics which he thinks is based upon coffee (that was true at the time). The book has very interesting facts but must be read with the strong consciousness that it is absolutely out of date because Puerto Rico is a whole different place right now.
