A crowded carriage and a mad dash to escape from brigands!

Brother Mihangel, a simple Cymry monk, wants to return to his monastery in Gwent, but finds his carriage crowded. Lady Meron, suffering from pains of the head draws, his sympathy. Two priests, who inflict the pomposity of their stations upon the others, draw his scorn.

Ahead, watching is Derog. A commoner who has lost all he ever wanted. Derog has left his lands to seek a replacement for what was ripped away by his former lord.

When the paths of these two men cross, the bumping of the carriage and the pretentiousness of the priests is the least of Mihangel’s worries. Can he protect Lady Meron? Will any of them survive the night?

This exciting novelette is just the first stroke in the mesmerizing new Dark Paranormal Fantasy series by Troy A. Hill. This story leads the reader through events that trigger the story told in A Cup of Blood, A Soul of Steel, and A Blink of an Eye.

Troy is the author of the Cup of Blood series, and its prequels, The Penllyn Chronicles. Both series are set in post-Arthurian Britain.

Through writing these stories, Troy has fallen in love with the Welsh land and her people of the past. Although his ancestry has a strong Saxon and Scottish tilt to it, he hopes one day to move to Wales, and adopt his own red dragon.

When he's not writing more adventures for Maria, Gwen, Emlyn et al, he and his fuzzy editor, AKA Loki-Kitty, are usually sitting outside in the Los Angeles Sunshine (and smog).

Troy's love of history has also driven him to volunteer as a docent at the Santa Monica Pier, to the west of LA. You can find him there occasionally on the weekends, guiding walking tours and discussing the history of Santa Monica, Hollywood, and a pier built in the early 1900s.

I found this to be a bit of a slower start, however by the end it had me wanting to jump into book one. It certainly did tantalize once it got going a bit, and I certainly want to read more. So, it did it's job and teased me into wanting more of this series. Some schemes are just not meant to work. Not all vampires are cruel, and Fae are real. Enjoy the story. I gave it 4 stars just for the slower start, other than that it was good and gets you really for the next book.

I received this ARC from the Author, the review is my honest opinion of what I read.

A really enjoyable prequel novelette to the CUP OF BLOOD series.

A group of weary travellers take a long carriage ride together.

Brought together by fate perhaps? Who knows? By the end of their trip it won't matter why or how they came together, it will only matter who will survive the journey.

Whilst their carriage makes its way along the rough roads of the countryside, it is attacked.

The passengers are dragged out of the carriage and within moments, men lie dead. But who died and who killed whom? How did things get to this point so quickly? Who showed courage and who ran away leaving the others to cope alone? You will enjoy finding who did what when you read this entertaining and exciting short story.

The main thing I loved about this story were the characters in it. They were well written with all the personality quirks that made them interesting and fascinating to read about.

Also, the plot of the story was really good and the action was thrilling and exciting. I love it when the relevant people get their come uppance. It's oddly satisfying.

Althought this was a short story, it contained all the elements of a larger story condensed down to fit the domentions of a novelette.

This is a really great introduction to the CUP OF BLOOD series.

Yeah, I really liked this book, it was thoroughly entertaining and riveting. I read it in one sitting.

TROY KNOCKS IT OUT OF THE PARK!!!
Wow! I have say right up front, you may as well grab your copy and sit back. This is one bad boy you don't want to miss. All the excitement, action, adrenaline pumping, heart pounding, hard hitting tales that captivates from the start to finish. Once you open up this series there's no turning back. Twists and turns abound with drama and situations running out of control. As things come to ahead your left reeling. Troy keeps the suspense and danger high as tensions build to one up to one explosive ending.
