Former Clemson coach Charley Pell once said that the outcome of the Carolina-Clemson rivalry decides who walks down the street as state champion and who hides in a closet for a year." That's the way it goes in the Palmetto State when these two football teams get together. Playing for the first time in 1896 on a soggy day at the state fair in Columbia, the Gamecocks and the Tigers began a tradition that has lasted over a century. Join award-winning sportswriters Travis Haney and Larry Williams as they recount the greatest moments of the longest uninterrupted series in the South, with firsthand accounts from coaches, players and spectators."
This was a great book chronicling the history of the Carolina-Clemson rivalry. The authors did a great job researching the history of the rivalry and compiling the best stories from the long history of games. It was great to get insight from so many of the former Carolina and Clemson athletes, fans, etc. as they shared memories from throughout the years. As someone who loves college football, particularly the Gamecocks, this was a great read about one of the greatest and longest rivalries in all of college football. It was an easy read that kept me laughing and interested the entire time. I love how the authors included all of the game results, coaching records, and important statistics at the end of the book. This is a great reference as the rivalry continues in the years to come. I enjoyed this one!
Great insight to one of the most bitter rivalries in all of college football. It is one of the most underrated rivalries in all of sports in my opinion. They stopped playing it for several years because of the threat of violence in the early 20th century between the two student bodies. Really neat history on the rivalry from both perspectives.
Not well written at all. Jeff's parents gave to me for Christmas. It flashes between present and past very abruptly making the timeline hard to follow. It has a few good stories of the rivalry but overall it was a dud.
