Abby Masters knew it was time to move on and start her life on her own. No one was in her way, no one could stop her. Leaving her past behind was the best way to move forward. Deciding to travel around the world, the intent was to clear her mind, to find herself and to start over. What she didn’t expect, what she didn’t see coming, was Clive.

Abby Masters realized it was time for her to move on, leave her small town life where she was suffocating under her mother’s scrutiny and her father’s abandonment. She picks up and leaves her past behind to go on a journey of self-discovery. Abby decides to travel around the world, looking to clear her mind of past wrongs and hurts. Some she inflicted on others and some that were inflicted on her. She hopes to find a “New Abby” and a new life. She never imaged she would meet someone like Clive on the plane heading to Scotland, the first stop on her adventure. Though she is determined to find herself and not get involved with a man she finds Clive’s Scottish charms hard to resist.
My Review:
This is book three in the Southern Roots series by Julie Morgan and my first read from this author. In the beginning of the book about twenty percent in I was having a little bit of a hard time connecting with Abby because I didn’t read the other books in the series and could not understand her history. I worried this would affect my opinion of her story. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised as I kept reading I began to care about Abby and what happened to her in her life. I realized maybe it was better that I didn’t have a preconceived notion of Abby from the other books. I probably would have hated her for sleeping with her best friend’s boyfriend. Not having that in my head as I read her story I was able to care about why Abby did the bad things she did, what drove her to hurting others. This made for a really great emotional read. I felt for Abby and her childhood experiences, a drunk mother an absentee father. She meets a man who doesn’t know her past and when he finds out about her history he doesn’t care. He sees her, truly sees who she is, not what she allows people to see. They snap and sizzle with chemistry from their first meeting. I thought the sex scenes were very steamy, I liked the little bit of D/s the author threw in, not much, but enough to make the sex scenes hot, and also to get through how much it meant for Abby the one always in control to give control over to a man. Clive was a great alpha male character when he shows up when Abby needs her the most tears welled in my eyes. I am not usually one for the red headed men, but I was loving his Scottish ways and his traditional kilt wearing.
I love a good epilogue and this book had a great one. It’s always a good sign to me when I want to go back in a series to read how the other characters got together. You don’t have to read the previous books to get into Abby’s story. I look forward to trying out more of Julie Morgan’s books.
Received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review
If you’ve read the other books in the Southern Roots series, then you’ve met Abby Masters. She wasn’t exactly a “good” friend, especially since she screwed her best friend over by screwing her boyfriend. I had a hard time seeing the good in her, but Fueled Desire gives her the redemption she truly does deserve.
Abby hasn’t exactly had the best life, despite the wealth she came from. With an alcoholic mother who hated her and constantly talked down to her, and a father who was so engrossed in his business (and his secretary) that he barely knew she existed, it’s no wonder she craved attention. She finally realizes what a horrible person she has become and decides a trip alone is just what she needs to find herself. Just like that, she packs a bag and heads to the airport for the journey of a lifetime to Scotland, India, and Australia.
The last thing she expected to encounter was the vulgar and forward Scotsman she’s seated next to on the plane, Clive Patterson - tall, red hair and emerald eyes, dead sexy in a kilt, and an accent to DIE for! It makes for an interesting flight and she’s definitely attracted to him, but has no plans to see him again. After all, this trip is meant to find herself, not jump in bed with another guy. She ends up at a bar, HIS bar, and one thing leads another. But still, he’s a good guy and she’s only here for a short time, she doesn’t want to start anything with him…but he’s determined and he won’t give up.
In the past, Abby was all about the chase and tended to want what she couldn’t (or shouldn’t) have, but once she had the guy, she was done, no relationships. Once she caught Clive, would she still want him? Or better yet, once Clive learns of her past and her family, how truly awful and screwed up she is, will he still want her?
Fueled Desire is my absolute favorite book in the Southern Roots series. Seriously, Clive is one of my most favorite book boyfriends EVER! This book has it all – it’s HOT, hilarious, and will have your emotions all over the place. Do yourself a favor and 1-click it, I’m sure you’ll fall in love with Clive, too.
This is one story that will make you want a Scottish man in a kilt! Hot, steamy and yummy!
Abby Masters is a girl of privilege. she has never had a care in the world when it comes to money, but when it comes to parents, she got the short end of the stick. Her mother can't stand her, and her father is so involved with his own life, that he doesn't have time for her.
This makes Abby decide that it's time for a trip. A trip of all trips, to say the least. On the first leg of her journey .. going to Scotland, she meets the ever so sexy and hilarious Clive. The two part ways, once the plane lands and Abby never thought she would see him again. Low and behold, she walks into a bar and who does she see? The bar owner -- Clive. Hmmm, coincidence, or fate?
Abby soon finds out that this man is NOT going to let her go. When tragedy strikes and Abby needs comfort and support, he gives her that, and so much more. Clive is a man that not only makes you laugh (because the things that come out of his mouth are hilarious), but he is also a sweet, sweet, caring man. When he falls, he falls hard.
Julie did a great job with dialogue, accents and points of interest. I truly believe that she did her research on this one. Give Fueled Desire and the rest of the Southern Roots series a read. You won't be disappointed. Each character eventually gets their own time to shine in a book, thus far. I can't wait to see what she has in store for us next!
This is the third book in the Southern Roots series. I loved the previous two and was really looking forward to this one.
This is Abby's story. We met Abby in book one when she did some pretty bad things to her then best friend Lexi by sleeping with her ex Blaine (book 2) and trying to sabotage her new relationship with Robert. In this story we get to find out exactly why she was acting the way she did. From the start i felt really sorry for her and the way she had been brought up. Her story starts when she decides to go and be on her own and find out who she really is. She gets on the plane to Scotland and meets Clive... I've always had a bit of a thing for Scottish men and Clive lived up to fantasy!! God is he hot! i just loved the way the author put the accent into his dialogue it gave me tummy flutters!! Clive is a strong Kilt wearing alpha who sweeps Abby off her feet and takes her on a whole new adventure she didn't want at first. There are a few twists and turns along the way but Abby gets there in the end. The story kept me entertained from start to finish, in fact i didn't put it down from start to finish!
I'm really really enjoying this series and can't wait for next installment Driven Hunger which is Makayla's story. I would recommend this book to anyone.
For those that read the first book from the Southern Roots Series where you first met Abby, well this book is where you learn more about her back story and you actually really feel for her. Abby decides to go to Scotland, India and then Australia to find herself as a person and to see what she really wants out of life. On her way to Scotland, she meets Clive who has the seat next to her in first class. Clive is a funny yet dirty mind kind of guy that makes Abby really laugh for the first time I think. During her time in Scotland they get to know each other and develop feelings. She then leaves to go to India where she discovers some terrible news and has to immediately go back to Texas. Will Abby and Clive last or was it just a fling during her time there? Can Abby deal with what happened in Texas or will it cause her to go back to her old ways so she doesn't have to deal with feelings? Find out in this third story, Fueled Desire, now! After reading this, Abby has become one of my favorites.
I thought Fallen was good but I love Southern Roots series!! Each book keeps getting better. So after Book One, I HATED Abby Masters. Seriously, she was that girl you wanted to slap Hard, in the face, with a brick....for all the shady stuff she pulled. So at the beginning of Fueled Desire, I was happy she was leaving town. Then Clive walked on that plane and I forgot my anger for Abby and my attention was drawn to this hilarious, bold, sexy man in a kilt. I tried really hard to stay pissed at Abby (especially for scoring Clive) and I was happy he busted her chops and gave her a hard time. As Clive was making me laugh (and other stirrings), I softened for Abby as her own history unfolded. I felt like I really got to know these characters. Julie Morgan is fabulous at drawing you in and making you feel. If you were like me and hated Abby, you just might change your mind by the end of this book. One thing is for sure, I wanna go to Scotland!!! I will be on the lookout for men in kilts and not ignore anyone on the plane. Never know, I just might get lucky! Can't wait for the next book!!!
Fueled Desire is book 3 in the Southern Roots Series. Although this is the 3rd book in the series…it can be read as a stand alone.
I was hesitant when I started this as I had not read the other books in the series however the author gives enough background without giving up to much to enjoy the story.
Abby masters determined to leave her past behind decides it’s time to do something for herself and travel to Scotland, India and Australia to find herself.
While on the plane Abby meets sexy sweet talking Clive’s with strong panty melting brogue! SWOON!
The banter between Abby and Clive was witty, funny and so sexy!
I really enjoyed reading this story, however I would have love to have read more of Clive’s story…maybe next book! I will be going back and reading the first two book in this series.
Running from the loneliness of the world she lived in and the mistakes that she made to isolate her even more form the ones she once called friend, Abby decides she is going to travel to find herself. What she did't bargain for was finding a red headed beast of a man that would torture her through her flight, Clive. The Scotsman was loud and fresh and well... a giant beautiful beast of a man!
So did finding herself include finding a man? Fate decided for her, she needed to see where her adventure really led her to see if this man would be the one to heal her wounds and bring her back to life. Fun, Exciting and down right dirty, Clive and Abby will Rock Ye World!
This romance has something for everyone; love, steam, and humor. I love Clive's playful side, and well, who can resist a man with muscles, tats, a big heart, and a kilt?
This book outlines the journey of Abby striving to be a better person, Clive helping her with that and the love they find along the way. I loved the supporting character, Scarlett, too. I would be interested in reading her story. I also like that it included some insight into other cultures.
So Abby hasn't had the best life despite being rich. She is ignored by both parents and isn't a good friend at all. She decides to take a trip and make some changes in her life. She jumps a plane to Scotland, while on the plane, she is seated next to Clive. Clive is gorgeous, tall, red headed and very perverted. Oh and he's Scottish(accent to die for). There's an instant attraction between them. Abby refuses to believe until they cross paths again. I truly believe that Clive will be good for Abby, she needs someone to excite and be as crazy as she is. This was sick a good book!!
This was such a wonderful story. Having read the first 2 books in the series, I wasn't a fan of Abby. This book definitely changed my mind about her, and why she acted the way she did. Abby decided to leave home and travel to Scotland, India, and Australia. She meets a Scotsman by the name of Clive when she boarded the plane in Texas. They hit it off and it's magic from there. What happens? You'll have to read that for yourself!
Fueled desire is book 3 of the Southern Roots series. After not really enjoying or admiring book 1 (southen roots), I was very much hesitant in continuing on with the series. I found Southern Roots very clichéd and predictable and some of the characters I disliked very much. Book 2 (city lights) I read because I received an ARC. However, I got more involved in the storyline and the characters. This brings us to the story of Abby and Clive in Fueled Desire. Abby was initially one of the characters I despised in Southern Roots. But, Julie Morgan has changed her perception of her. Her background and storyline has made me more sympathetic to Abby and the way she is. Abby sets out a jet setting journey to find herself and to bury the past. What she did not bank on was meeting Clive the brash Scotsman. Together they set out to conquer Abby's past demons. An enjoyable read which had me page turning quickly to find out what happens on the next page. As with previous books one thing that irks me with Morgan's writing is she currently changes which tense she writes in. Even within one paragraph I was frustrated to see a switch between past and present tenses. As a whole though, 4 stars.
Abby had hurt so many people in her quest for love that she finds she really hates herself. Literally looking for love in the wrong places and betraying her only friends, she decides to start over and get to know herself again. Booking a trip across the sea to Scotland, Abby leaves it all behind and that means men as well or does it? On the plane fate sends Clive to be her seat mate and by the time their flight ends, Abby is rethinking her decision to stay away from men. Recovering from jet lag, Abby sets out to tour the area and winds up at a brewery and bar owned by none other than Clive. As her week of romance begins to run out Abby is afraid to leave, but knows that she must to rediscover herself. In India, she is able to let down her walls and find out who the real Abby is on the inside. In Australia, she receives a call that her father has been killed and races home to take care of the funeral arrangements, only to have Clive show up at the funeral. Can his support last through her family crisis? Will his declaration of love be able to withstand her past, present and give them a future together?
I really wanted to hate Abby to the ends of this series. But when love creeps into a series you just never know where your feelings about a character will go. When the "kilted man", Clive, enters the picture, you just know this story is going to be GOOD. The humor of the author truly comes out in this third book in the series, and it is exactly what is needed to help Abby heal, me like her so much more, and for you to fall in love with these characters that much more. The author really has nails into this series, and she's hanging on tight. As with the previous stories, HEA is the way she's going to go!
I received a copy of Julie's book in exchange for a review.
I was impressed with Ms. Morgan in book 2 of this series about Blaine. In this 3rd book, Feuled Desire, I am even more impressed. Showing Abby as she transitions from the mean girl we all hate, to an insecure, compassionate, scared young woman, Julie demonstrates why she's a top seller.
I hope you buy this book and remember that people are the way they are because of how life made them.
This book has been my favorite do far. I knew there was a story behind Abby and it took a red headed, dirty talking Scotsman to bring it out. Clive is irreverent, bossy, funny, sexy and so very understanding. When he looked at Abby, he didn't see her past, all he saw was their future. These 2 are my favorite couple in the Southern Roots series!!!
Once again we are given the other side of a character we come to hate in southern roots. This story is about Abby's journey for self discovery and improvement. Clive is absolutely lovable from first introduction. He cracks her shell and brings out the best in her. The story is full of humor and strength. A highly recommended inspirational story. A great series!
This story of Clive and Abbi was a wonderful addition to the Southern Roots series. The characters were very believable and the story was so tragic. I'm looking forward to the next installment in this series!
Once again Julie doesn't disappoint. I love this story and especially Clive and his Scottish accent, I think he could rock my world. Julie's writing is off the hook. Love her
