Max Rogers is a boy who loves to play "World of Slime" on the tablet, when he can get a go that is as he shares it with his sister Amy who much prefers playing her favourite game "World of Pets". After squabbling with her to get a go (something that is totally relatable in our household) he has one hour of playtime, "Remember I installed that timer... One hour of screentime, that's it," says mum.

Well this time Max is going to have the "most amazing hour of his whole life". He has a gross sneeze that "plasters the screen from corner to corner" with snot but this puts him in the game.

Inside the game he meets the characters he created, the Goozillas, like Gloop, Gunk with his gun - the Sludgesputter 6000, Captain Crust with his Snotshooter cane, Atishoo "a tiny Goozilla no bigger than Max's hand", Joe who wears "a pair of Gadget Glasses that had cost Max almost two hundred dung dollars", and Big Blob. To them Max is "The Creator... He's the big face we see in the sky!"

The Goozillas live in the World of Slime, a world that is constantly kept gooey by a slime volcano and where the Golden Glob has to be tapped every day "to charge up the volcano's slime levels." "Without the Glob, everything will dry out and crumble away" and it seems Max's sneeze has destroyed the Glob into six pieces each of which must be retrieved (hence a planned six books in the series). Only trouble is that the "Sicklies" are invading from Amy's favourite game World of Pets. "We've been trying to escape that ridiculous rainbow-coloured prison for months. Now that your slime eruption has dribbled away, we are finally here. This place belongs to us now. And we're never going to leave!" says Bubble Kitten.

This book is the first in the series and takes place in the "Bog of Beasts" part of the game. The book is full colour, with lots of green in particular. It has an eye-catching cover with neon orange being the main colour. The characters on both sides (the good and the bad) feature on the inside covers, Max and the Goozillas at the front, and Amy and the Sicklies at the back, in stat cards. The book looks really attractive as a whole and the story is well-written and action-packed too.

It should suit boys who are becoming more confident readers of longer stories.
