I always love a visit to Indian Lake – such a charming town with great characters! This latest installment adds a camp director with a big heart and the swoony firefighter who rescues her in more ways than one.

This book grabbed my attention right from the beginning, with a raging forest fire headed straight for Beatrice’s camp for kids & two of the little boys out in the middle of the danger. Beatrice is extremely brave and courageous when it comes to her camp kids (though perhaps not matters of the heart), as is Rand who heads in after her and the boys.

Those little boys – Chris and Eli – totally captured my heart, as did all the kids at Beatrice’s beloved camp, but especially these two. Their background is traumatic and their future looks bleak, without divine intervention. And yet their little hearts have so much love to give and receive. Watching their journey through the book was even more enjoyable to me than the romance – and that’s saying a lot!

Speaking of the romance, though, Rand and Beatrice’s first kiss completely melted me – and it’s not even a typical kiss. I won’t say more because you need to read it for yourself, except to say that it was such a emotionally charged moment and so well-written that it was tangible.

Bottom Line: A sweet story that fits in perfectly with the Indian Lake universe, Rescued by the Firefighter reminds us of the power of love to heal even the deepest wounds. Layered characters that are genuinely likable, a charming setting, and great romantic tension – all of these elements make this a great choice for a cozy weekend read!

For readers who have been following Catherine Lanigan’s Shores of Indian Lake series, there are plenty of familiar faces (names?) within the pages of Rescued by the Firefighter. And for those who have missed the previous books, this may just be the best time to jump into them because Beatrice and Rand are brand new characters who (at least to my knowledge. But full disclosure: I have read most but not every book in the series) haven’t been introduced before.

Beatrice runs a camp for disable and discarded children. Her big heart connects with each and everyone of them. So, when a fire erupts in the woods near her beloved home and one of the children is in danger, she rushes in, no second thoughts. Good thing Rand Nelson, firefighter extraordinaire is on the scene. And the flames of the fire aren’t the only thing that sizzle throughout the pages.

Despite the obvious attraction and admiration these two have for each other, Beatrice fights her growing feelings for Rand. No way is she going to love someone else with a dangerous job who will leave her heartbroken. But even surrounded by children, Beatrice is lonely.

Eli and Chris captured my heart. These two boys who have had a rough go of it and are trying to find comfort and love were the highlight of this book for me. And their connection with both Beatrice and Rand both pinched and warmed my heart.

Rescuing hearts

Hmm. What to say? A handsome firefighter who rescues the damsel in distress. Sounds like a fairy tale, right? Well, maybe. However, despite the valiant rescue that introduced the story, things really began to heat up as Rand made choices that Beatrice took personally.

Beatrice has a heart of gold. Because she experienced neglect in her childhood, she was determined to show love to as many children as came into her path. When the aftermath of the fire threatens her camp, she is furious with the one bringing the trouble into her life. Rand. The only problem is that she has trouble fighting her attraction to him.

Rand is such a rule-follower – for good reason. The one time he wasn’t, it cost a man his life. So despite the fact that he risks his own life on a regular basis, he isn’t willing to risk bending the rules. If that means reporting that the camp doesn’t meet fire regulations, so be it. I enjoyed how he wasn’t willing to just leave Beatrice hanging, though, and jumped in to help her as much as he could. And the way he dealt with Eli and Chris was heartwarming.

This is a fun, sweet story. Though there is a dramatic rescue at the onset, it is not a suspenseful or action-filled story, it is more about the relationship between the main characters.

Such a touching story! With a return visit to Shores of Indian Lake, we see lots of the old regulars and meet some news ones as we embark on a heartwarming story of hope. Bea pledged her life to helping less fortunate kids have an enjoyment they couldn't get elsewhere at her camp. She teaches them their own worth, she shares fun life lessons with them, and most of all, she makes sure each and every one of them knows they are loved. The characters catch our attention from the start and the plot is quick to draw us in. The story is a bit slow in parts and light on the romantic connection somewhat, but the connection with the kids is superb ... overall a really sweet story of love when you least expect it and reaching for it even when it's outside of your comfort zone. Sweet kids, a sexy fireman and a story about reaching for the stars and achieving them!

Beatrice Wilcox loves her job running a camp for challenged kids, but some days it's almost more than she can handle. Like the night a fire breaks out and she has to go charging through it to find two missing campers. Luckily for her, a firefighter is in the right place at the right time to rescue them all!

Firefighter Rand Nelson is a by the books guy, so when he does his report of what happened that night, he can't sugar coat it. He likes Bea though, and the job she's doing for these kids out there at the camp, so he tries to ease the hardship by helping her with a repair himself. He's instantly drawn to her, but she's holding herself back .. turns out she doesn't like a man that puts himself in danger on a daily basis!

From the start I knew that I was going to enjoy these two characters. A caregiver and a firefighter, two people you want to live happily ever after. However as the book progressed I was not so happy with them. First "Bee" (Which I love where she got her nickname and it reminded me of my dad's nickname that he used to call me), runs into a fire and gets burnt. Then she doesn't take care of herself with the fire wounds. She completely shut Rand out and told him from the beginning that she did not want a relationship with a firefighter, and she was mean to him every time he tried to help her. She was incorrigible! Rand on the other hand bent over backwards trying to help her and saved her money. He even brought his friends to help her. He did turn her in, but that is his job, Safety should be first! The amount of time that they both spent with Eli and Chris is what really warmed my heart in this story. It was amazing to see these two boys blossom into young men with their futures ahead of them. Everything was going so well, until Rand took a job and moved away. The ending definitely made me teary eyed, and I can not wait to read more from this author. I would love to read up and see how these characters are doing. Especially the kids and the camp. I am giving this book a 5/5. All opinions are my own.

This is a awesome story. I loved Beatrice Cox and Rand Nelson. I would want them in my corner any day. Beatrice has the biggest heart and puts others ahead of herself. Especially children. Her camp is to help children. Rand NASA big heart as well but as a firefighter he knows safety has to come first. Its a great story of love being let in. Its a book you will be turning the pages to see what's happening next with Rand and Beatrice. Its a story that will warm your heart. Talk about a play on words. But its a awesome story to read. The story will have you routing for two very special boys and for the couple towards the end.

Rescued by the Firefighter by Catherine Lanigan is a great read. This book is a welcoming visit back to Shores of Indian Lake. I love visiting with old friends from previous visits. Rand and Beatrice are a great edition to the rest of the Shores of Indian Lake family. Beatrice and Rand are sweet together but Rand has a dangerous career that could very well tear them apart. I enjoyed this exciting heartwarming romance.

I love returning to Indian Lake for a couple of reasons, first of all it seems like a quaint town where neighbors are friends and secondly those neighbors and friends are characters that I really, really like.

This book was my favorite because I loved the storyline of the children’s camp and the camp director, Beatrice Wilcox is so sweet and caring it’s impossible not to like her. Another character that I found irresistible is firefighter, Rand Nelson. Oh my, but he had my heart as soon as he came to fight the dangerous and terrifying fire threatening the camp and the lives of one of the boys at the camp.

Honestly, I felt bad for Beatrice as she felt the fear of losing everything that she loved and worked so hard for but at the same time I felt her anger toward Rand was misplaced since he was doing his job and filing the necessary paperwork of his findings regarding the fire. Given the circumstances I could understand why Beatrice behaved the way she did because the kids at her camp mean everything to her and she means the world to them, too. Out of all of the kids at the camp, Chris and Eli melted my heart and their story quickly became my favorite part of the book. I desperately wanted a happy ending for them as much as I wanted one for Beatrice and Rand.

This book is filled with lovely, caring characters who live their lives giving so much of themselves to others and basically making their community a better place. At times this is an emotional read but there are some fun and happy times throughout.

If you aren’t familiar with the work of Catherine Lanigan I recommend this book to you. If you are already fan, then you will definitely want to pick up a copy of this sweet, Harlequin Heartwarming book.

Rescued by the Firefighter is book ten in the Shores of Indian Lake series, and I’ve read all but the first to books, so I was anxiously awaiting a return visit. The author draws you into the story immediately with a fire in the woods near the camp Beatrice owns. Upping the already intense action, two children are missing and Beatrice runs into the fire to rescue them only to be rescued by Rand. Rand and Beatrice have an instant connection, and Rand’s interaction with the two boys from the fire is captivating as he grows attached to them. This story introduces a new set of characters – workers at the camp and the children attending, which are all enjoyable to get to know. Beatrice and Rand continue to push away from each other adding tension to their relationship. The scene where Beatrice and the boys attend Rand’s family barbeque was touching. The ending was perfect with a Labor Day dinner at Mrs. Beabots where past characters from the previous books gathered, and Rand and Beatrice make an announcement to the group. A heartwarming story you won’t want to put down. Reviewed for Still Moments Magazine.
