If I Was Your Girlfriend tells a story of a group of four best friends living in Atlanta. These girls have been best friends for a long time. Rashida whom I consider the leader and level headed one of the group. Joyce is the good girl. Denise is the plain jane, low key type of girl. Although she looks good, she often goes unnoticed when she is with her girls. Taylor is the wild and free spirited one of the bunch. The girls experience issues such as dating, sexuality, cultural difference in the black community and different issues that go on between friends. Taylor and Denise are like oil and water constantly nit picking with each other. Rashida meets a guy and falls in love but the timing is so wrong and so she tries to go on with her life and meets someone else. Denise meets someone and some of her rules go out the window but she quickly discovers that the guy she is seeing is withholding a secret. Joyce meets someone but she is more into him than he is with her. Taylor is secretly crushing on someone but keeps that to herself until the timing is right. There are a lot secrets being kept that could possibly destroy their sisterhood bond. Will these best friends work it out or will their friendship go separate ways?
I refer to these types of books as " sister girl" books lol. Im looking at the cover and trying to match the faces with the characters. I was looking forward to reading this novel when Marlon McCaulsky announced it would be dropping soon. I purchased it the day it was released and I was not disappointed. I really enjoyed the sisterhood bond these girls had. Good friendships like this are hard to come by these days. The subjects it touched on was something a lot of women could relate to and I'm sure a lot of women can see themselves within these characters. Usually novels have characters you don't like but I like all the characters except one of the men who showed his true colors. I like that Rashida was a go getter. I thought Joyce was stuck up at first but she really is a good girl. Taylor is the bold one who doesn't care what people think...more of a live in the moment type of person and Denise may be plain but she seems guarded and just cautious. Overall it was a good story and I really enjoyed reading it and I would recommend it.
They say that females can't get along with each other. However four friends living in Atlanta did just that. Until the secrets came out. Rashida, Taylor, Denise and Joyce were four beautiful women that had it going on. They all had a degree or was working towards one. Rashida is in a relationship that has run it course but she stays in it anyway. She runs into someone and had a night outside of that relationship. She feels thing that she doesn't feel with Robert. The next time she sees her one nighter he's with Taylor. They eventually bump heads. Denise is the quiet one of the group. She gets involve with Sean and he's not telling her what he needs to tell her so someone else does. Denise is livid. She has her on secret that she needs to reveal to Sean but will she allow him to stay in the picture? Joyce has a secret that she lets Rashida in on. Rashida didn't see that one coming, Hell I didn't either. This is a really good book. Everything flows perfect together. It's a page Turner. I liked how it ended. No cliffhanger nor part2 is needed. One click and get your read on. Very entertained!! Cynthia Curry/Paperback Pusher
I actually finished this in a day. The relatively short chapters made it easier to read and fed that "just one more chapter" tendency. After a few chapters, I was sucked in and continuously anticipating what was next. Now, I will say that at one point I got annoyed at Rashida for dragging her feet with Robert ( I'm trying to avoid spoilers, here). And I thought this character (Robert) took a rather drastic turn without much of an explanation as to why. But sometimes it goes like that, I suppose. The main reason why I removed a star was the editing. Not to be pedantic, but there were so many small errors that it added up to be too much for me to just bypass. Things like that take away from the reading experience for me. Overall, I did enjoy the story.
Please don’t sleep on this author. I had forgotten that I read the Pink Palace when it came out a while ago prior to ebooks. Just like the Pink Palace Marlon brought his A-game. The characters in this book could be your sisters, cousins or good girlfriends. He brings the women to life and have you shaking your head at them sometimes. Reading about Rashida, Denise, Joyce and Taylor makes you want to reach in and grab them until you remember some of the dumb stuff you have done as well. Although Rashida breaks the cardinal rule Marlon makes you love them all. I must say I won’t be forgetting this talented author again. Kudos Mr. McCaulsky. Job well done!
This intoxicating, very well developed storyline grabbed and kept my attention. The character development was written in such a way that I think all ladies will see a little bit of themselves in each character. Lesson learned: there are no promises in life; be honest with yourself and others. I recommend this five star read to anyone who enjoys reading.
A wonderful story. Sisters are like blood relatives and stick together. This book explains it all. A wonderful take with friends who know how to forgive. Really enjoyed this book.

If I Was Your Girlfriend: An Atlanta Tale is truly a must read. I can sum up this book in just three words. Black Girls Rock! This book is a fun to read and had an easy to follow storyline. While reading this story I got to know each character personally. Share their bond and witness the trail and tribulations each woman endured while battling their own personal demons. What kept these ladies together in the end was the that close bond they shared and the dedication of their sisterhood. The unspoken, unbreakable commitment to each other through thick and thin. Each women had their own personality and perspective on life. So of course they would bumb heads occasionally. But the one thing they all had in common, was the love for their girlfriends. I feel readers can relate to one or more chsrscter(s)in this story in sum aspect. This book was well written. The editng and synopsis was on point. The covers speaks volumes and worthy of a five stars alone. It gave me life. You can see the author's vision of each the girlfriends in the story. Great character development without overdoing it. I definitely recommend this book. Marlon McCaulsky is an amazing writer. Paperback Pushers Reviewer, Deanna

If I Was Your Girlfriend is a great contemporary women’s fiction novel by Marlon McCaulsky. McCaulsky does a good job of telling this story from each woman’s point of view. The characters are in their 20s and it’s set in 2018. But when reading the novel, it takes you back to those good girlfriend type of African American women’s fiction novels of the 90s and early 2000s. There’s just enough drama to keep the story flowing without being over the top. The story is realistic with an ending that readers will be satisfied with. If I Was Your Girlfriend is a fun and delightful read by Marlon McCaulsky.
