Waging Justice: A Doctor's Journey to Speak Truth and Be Bold
Waging Justice is a memoir by Dr. Paul Zeitz, forthcoming by Balboa Press in September 2018. In unflinching prose, Dr. Zeitz shares a lifetime of struggles and hard-won lessons as a doctor, activist, father, and son. His complex dance between healing others and healing himself ultimately transforms the inexplicable anger and disappointment he felt at the state of the world and his own past into full throttled, open-hearted, soul-satisfying action set on a global stage. Waging Justice is a personal story and also a universal one: a story of action, of courage, and of forgiveness; and a rallying cry to wage justice in our lives, speak the truth, be bold, and take action in the world today.

This book will change your life: Waging Justice is a beautiful, poignant, and important memoir that takes us inside the human heart and inside Washington's inner workings. Zeitz is a medical doctor, activist for children's health, and committed husband and father. But as the story unfolds, Zeitz uncovers something incredibly disturbing: that one reason for his extreme outrage in the face of children being abused and neglected is a horrifying skeleton in his own closet. Zeitz is as committed and uncompromising as the Notorious RBG. He is destined to become a super hero and a role model to us all.

I was really impressed at how well written this book is. Paul did an amazing job of capturing the voice of a child in the early parts of the book and then his written voice matured as he moved into the later chapters. I also appreciated the way in which Paul revealed his motivations and the things that were driving him. There was a rawness to the book that was so authentic and made the book so read-able. I agree with some of the other reviewers that the book had an "unstoppable-read" quality to it. I read it cover to cover in one weekend- had trouble putting it down even for meals and sleep...
I also worked in public health in Southern Africa during the peak of the HIV epidemic and I was really drawn back into just how traumatic that phase was and how much some of us really did become somehow temporarily numb to it for our own self-preservation. Paul obviously kept his senses alive, sometimes to the detriment of his mental health and the well-being of his family, in those moments, but it really is what enabled him to accomplish so much and really is his secret to waging justice.
I am grateful to Paul for sharing his story. I hope that others will appreciate it in the same way that I did. I highly recommend it.

When I received this book in the mail, I opened it to read the reviews at the beginning. The rest is history as I was unable to put it down. I loved this book and would recommend it to all my friends and family.

The power of courage and conviction shines through this story. It also shows the utter importance of a loving and understanding partner and a supportive family.
Thank you Paul, for sharing this deeply personal, honest and brave story. I feel privileged to have read it.

Plainspoken & authentic, Zeitz offers a deeply personal & powerful account of his life & activism-motivations, joys, triumphs, struggles, & all the warts in between. His honesty & passion shine throughout his transformation of wounded anger into healing action. Zeitz doesn't pretend to be the best person; he's just a person trying his best to better the world & reconcile with himself.

Dr. Zeitz is the man that we all strive to be. His selflessness is unprecedented and his writing remains informative yet humble. Waging Justice gives us an insight into the lives of people that are actively pursuing a better world for everyone, with this story focusing in particular on those that cannot help themselves. I highly recommend this book.

The daily barrage of "bad news" is sometimes hard to confront, leaving many people paralyzed by the prospect of how to affect change when there is so much change that needs to happen. Paul Zeitz's beautiful, inspiring memoir gives us all a shining example of what one person can do if he puts his or her mind to it. Whether it's the global AIDS crisis, climate change, the scars of sexual assault, or providing urgent medical care to people on the ground at a moment's notice, Paul has had his hands in so many of our most pressing international conflicts. Those hands have saved lives, including his own and the family he's nurtured.
WAGING JUSTICE takes you from the streets of Philly to the villages of Zambia to the recording studio with Bono et al, singing "What's Going On" to end AIDS. Reading about these journeys almost feels like enough of a contribution to these efforts, but the magic of the book is how Paul motivates you to find your own cause, rally the troops in your community, and build a movement for a better tomorrow.

Lots to Absorb
An amazing life filled with amazing experiences in the public health arena. It is difficult to comprehend the physical and emotional energy needed to wage Justice in so many ways while maintaining a personal life and uncovering and coming to terms with early childhood demons.

I started losing interest about halfway through this. I pushed through to finish this but it wasn't my favorite.
